  1. Here's to hoping it will help us!
  2. Jim, how long have you been waiting to use that link?
  3. I just replaced one today, and I remember the sheet that identifies how to index the dipstick adapter also states '97 and up.
  4. Yes, and my 407 bill. And travelling time. I get paid 11 hrs per day of school.
  5. The Ottawa school is gonzo. They now offer English language courses in Montreal. Lots of good "entertainment" around the airport in Mississauga... if that's what you're into! My bosses make me commute back and forth... 125km each way.
  6. THANK YOU! I just had this exact issue last week. I'm glad I had the opportunity to have read of this prior to having it happen. I'm sure I would have figured it out, but I don't know how much hair I would have lost doing it! Cheers!
  7. You don't have to pull the engine mount. For cylinder 3 and 5, remove the 4 torx head bolts off the injector and then remove the upper pieces from the injector and you'll have enough room to get them out. Do the same with the new injectors (obviously) to get them back in. I don't use the tools to remove the injectors. Just remove the oil drain and lower hold down bolt completely, then slip the hold down plate up and over the upper bolt and use a small pry-bar to pop it out.
  8. I did that on the first 6.0 engine I had ever replaced.
  9. Really? They must think you have some type of forensics experience. What are you doing wasting your time at a dealer?
  10. Running the engine with low coolant will speed up cavitation. I wonder if there is some other "coolant loss" issue that is contributing? on edit: I say "speed up" instead of "cause", because I feel cavitation is inevitable on these things.
  11. BTDTWF. Been there, done that, works fine. One of my (now retired) co-workers did that all the time... with glow plugs, injectors, push-rods, rocker arms and bridges... every 6.0 he ever took apart... never an issue. I've had to reassemble one of his in the past, and that's how I found all the valvetrain parts-in a box! I try to do my best in returning everything to where it came from, but if something gets mixed up, I don't lose any sleep.
  12. I stayed away from The Donkey House for as long as I could... http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f23/you-dont-have-pay-play-247076/ I can't help my self... It's like watching a slow motion train wreck!
  13. I do 1.5... but close enough. I do recall being told at one time that factory time is 2/3 of retail time. So that's where I came up with that.
  14. We do not honor any non-Ford warranties. If anybody comes in with them, we'll let the customer do all the leg work, and get them to pay for the repair and submit for reimbursement from the warranty company.
  15. We had a similar issue last year. Another shop removed the cylinder heads for a coolant consumption issue, then realized it had warranty and sent it up here in a box. We charged retail to put the heads back on and then replaced the EGR cooler under warranty.
  16. I recently contacted Ford over a vehicle that I had suspected had a programmer installed and removed prior to bringing it in for a coolant venting issue. I was told to have the customer authorize removal of the heads, and Ford wanted me to contact them when the heads were off and tell them about the number of breach points in the head gasket(s) and the spray pattern on the pistons. It didn't go any further, because the customer then sang like a bird and left.
  17. I'd be a bit suspicious of "no starting fluid" thing...
  18. 500ppm is actually low sulphur. High sulphur diesel had/has 5000 to 10000ppm. In Canada off-road and highway fuel are both 15ppm
  19. I have mine on my home insurance. Costs me an additional $33 per year.
  20. Earlier this (oops, I mean last) year, our F+I department manager tried to put up one of the Power Stroke extended warranty posters in the commercial truck reception area. Before we tore it down, I did make notice of the fact the 6.4 picture on the poster had no EGR coolers and a different Y-pipe with no EDOC.
  21. I've removed head-bolts to replace rockers before with no issues. I always used a new head-bolt. These were vehicles we see on a regular basis. None have had a head-gasket failure. I would not think twice about replacing the bolts one at a time, as long as the engine is cold and the coolant drained via the block plugs, I'd try it.
  22. Our fleet customers rely on us to keep their vehicles on the road. We never have any issues with getting management to add on a legitimate repair. They will check it out, mind you... but they understand the expectations our customers have of us as a commercial service department. Our warranty is high... very, very high. We can't do much about it, as we are the only commercial dealership in the east end of Toronto, so we just continue to carry on the way we always have. Our repair orders go through 2 managers before they hit the warranty clerk to make sure that every thing is in order.
  23. I feel so sorry for you unfortunate souls that have to work on cars!
