  1. Does anybody have any type of commercial vehicle inspection form? I'm not looking for the QC-550... something geared towards trucks more than cars. TIA.
  2. I agree with you. I was surprised to learn how much I actually forgot about Ohms Law. But, a week was a bit much.
  3. You'd be taking your training in Mississauga and/or Scarborough at Centennial College. There has been technicians all the way from Sarnia and even Michigan attending some of the courses I've been to. Virtual College is the prerequisite for all the courses... as well has having to take a WEEK long basic electical theory and troubleshooting course... booooring! But that course does teach you about using INSITE, which is pretty good.
  4. Believe it or not, I smash any spark plugs I remove sucessfully and keep the centre electrode. That's is all the pin is. Give the a good cleaning with some brake clean and they work just fine.
  5. Swamped... can't keep up, and the work keeps coming. We're telling people we won't even open the hood for atleast a week, but they're willing to wait. Our business developement team has been working REALLY hard the past 6 months keeping us very busy with new fleets. All of our fleet customers get priority service, so they're atleast turned around pretty quick. The car shop on the other hand isn't doing quite the same. We try to offer them some of our overflow, but most of the techs. over there have HUGE chips on their shoulders about us making more per hour than they do, and like to decline to help... oh well.
  6. Dwayne, your kit "should" have enough pins and sleeves to set up 4 broken spark plugs at one time. I know... I said "should". BTW, after having done a few of them, I don't find them nearly as difficult as the first one. Also, since I've been following the procedure for removing the plugs as listed in the TSB, they come out most of the time.
  7. In my bay? The past 2 weeks... nothing but retail JAM!!! We got a new fleet of 30 F-550, F-650 and LCFs along with 20 landscape trailers for their yearly provincial safety inspections... SWEET!
  8. Well, with 4 injectors and a fuel pump, all is well. I fully expect the other 2 injectors to fail sometime(soon). I had asked the good folks at FMC if I should just do them all while I was, but was given a big NO. Bruce, what is "Saint"? Is that the software IH uses?
  9. It's a 2008. I'm using MD Truck. I was considering trying to download the latest version of MD, but recall hearing there are no "keys" available, and I don't want to be stuck with nothing.
  10. That's what I do... Well, I don't tell myself I'm going to pull the engine... I actually pull the engine.
  11. A short update on mine... After doing cold and hot cylinder cut out tests, I had 4 suspect injectors, so I replaced those 4. I ran like a top, but about 20 minutes into my roadtest, it set a DTC for low fuel pressure... Turns out we have a fuel pressure sensor on the 2008s and up. It's mounted where the test port is/was on early models. I saw it there when I was doing my fuel pressure test, but was unsure what it was so I did my pressure test the old "cap" way. Now, maybe Bruce can answer this question... is there anyway we can view this PID? I looked trough the list of PIDs, but could not find it. I'm waiting for a back-ordered fuel pump to arrive.
  12. The early bird catches the worm... but it is the second mouse who gets the cheese!
  13. Keep in mind that Cummins equipped Chryslers use their own electronics and diagnostic equipment. INSITE will not work on a Dodge truck.
  14. Welcome aboard... Have you taken a recording of the event?
  15. Yumm. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif
  16. I have one right now with what sounds like the exact same issue. Problem is, the CAC tube has rubbed through the upper radiator hose, and the engine has little to no coolant in it. So, I have to wait for a back-ordered (like everything for LCFs is) hose to come in before I can do any diagnosis, as it will hold no coolant. But, just as yours, it has no DTCs set, but is accompanied by a long crank.
  17. Uh-oh... you said the "O" word... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif
  18. Is this the same vehicle you posted on previously? If not, why don't you try some of the diagnostic methods discussed in that thread?
  19. We used to stock it... you can buy it for less than a dollar per gallon at any drug store though... I think when the parts department finished marking it up, we were looking at about 4 dollars per jug... I seem to recall reading somewhere that the system originally comes from the factory charged with distilled water and coolant, and that's why the first change interval is so long... but when the system is flushed or charged with tap water and coolant, the interval decreases... or something along those lines... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif... I guess it's highjacked now... oh, I guess the answer to the original question is, not us. Fuck distilled water, I'm gonna drink a shit-load of beer now. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif
  20. 2.0 for the tune up... 1 hour for the first broken plug, and 0.5 for each additional broken plug.
  21. I seem to recall having to reassign your new status at the end of every year since about 2005... but that could just be the alcohol talking.
  22. Cost plus 10 over here too... List minus 15 is what all of our commercial customers pay...
  23. I've found it difficult (at best) to get a horizontal cooler to show a small leak off the vehicle. Sometimes it's a matter of eliminating everything else. I've been told to use boiling water during the leak tests, and to rig up something to pressurize the cooler in reverse. That cooler showed no leaks, so I reinstalled it to find it was still using coolant. I finally had enough and put a horizontal cooler on it, and all was well. I have seen one or two that coolant was present in the EBP tube when the horizontal cooler failed, but not many. Remember the exhaust going through the vertical cooler is not very hot, so you wouldn't expect to see too many issues with that one.
  24. I'm sure they're just using a gasoline engine tachometer for the prototype/preproduction vehicles.
