  1. It certainly does display the same warning... so there is no correcting anybody. I have never disconnected either module on an LCF, where one of my co-workers always does... and we have the same success ratio when it comes to programming them. But, next time you have a 650 or 750 to flash, just try it without disconnecting one or both of the modules... it won't let you proceed...
  2. I also forgot to mention that I was told some time ago by the MD hotline that if you are having issues with setting errors while reprogramming, select "blank or new module" instead of "reprogram module" as a last resort when performing the "GET" function. You will need to retrieve the engine hours, mileage and fuel used from MD truck prior to peforming a blank module program.
  3. That's odd... I have never had to disconnect a TCM or ABS module on an LCF... I thought it only needed to be done with F-650s and F-750s. This is a quoted from TSB 07-01-05 "FOR F-650 / F-750 ONLY: BEFORE PROGRAMMING, VERIFY ALL ABS CONNECTORS (IF EQUIPPED), AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONNECTORS (IF EQUIPPED), AND HYDROMAX MOTORS (IF EQUIPPED) ARE DISCONNECTED." If you forget to disconnect either module on an F-650 or F-750, NETS will actually come up with an error that says the modules were not disconnected.
  4. I have a 6' handle 3/4" ratchet and a "somewhat modified" 3/4" shallow 6pt 18mm socket... does every single bolt but the left rear lower without breaking a sweat.
  5. If you are able to go through your get, send, recieve and program without flagging any errors, you know the program took. Some of the earlier 4.5s will get a post buzz, but I reprogrammed a 2008 last week, and it did not end up with post buzz. Each program is specific to the ESN. Have you run an automatic injector disable test with the engine cold?
  6. Speaking of light duty diesels... the last Cummins course I attended, we were shown pictures of their up-coming V6 and V8 engines... I don't remember the displacement, but they are overhead cam engines with nasty looking timing chain set-ups...
  7. Not even close... and you should see somebody about that cough...
  8. Right side are the easy ones... did you remove the evaporator case? The only bolt that causes somewhat of a problem is the left rear lower bolt. You can get a bit more access to that bolt by unbolting the transmission mount from the crossmember and jacking it up.
  9. Speaking of rust-belt... or in this instance, no-rust-belt... One of our fleets just purchased 3 used F-450 boom trucks from Texas... I had to replace the EGR cooler and oil cooler on one of them... what a treat, I loosened the nuts on the turbo clamps, and they came free right away... every bolt came out... I didn't even have to clean the valley prior to removing the oil cooler... PROPS TO TEXAS!
  10. I haven't even heard of it... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  11. We did 4 in the shop last week alone... seems like all the snowplow operators are getting their trucks ready for winter...
  12. I know there is alot of gain time, but we do so many of them, it's menu priced, so whether I charge 15 hours, or 5 hours the customer is going to pay the same... so why not stock the fridge with more beer?? And at $1600 P&L, it's atleast $500 cheaper than anywhere our "secret shopper" called. I think a bigger "hooping" is in the following case... Quote: We charge 22 - 24 hours depending what kind of underhood gear is on it as F550s are a body builder product. ...when the time is published at 11.0 hours to replace the pan, plus and additional 1.2 hours if it has A/C... basically charging twice what Chilton says... It may not be doing it the proper way... that is if the book way is the proper way, but then again, I've never seen it written in any WSM to remove a cab on a pre-2008 F-Series... and that seems to be a common practice.
  13. Basically remove the transmission, starter and oil filter, unbolt and separate the pan, remove the dipstick tube, unbolt the motor mounts, jack the engine up by the exhaust manifolds, reach in and undo the pick-up and remove the pan... clean it all up and put it back together... basically.
  14. You might have introduced some dirt in the high pressure oil resevoir that's found it's way to the IPR.
  15. If you beat a published time, do you instead charge the customer for how long it took? I sure don't...
  16. Quote: The published labor time for this job is 12.2hrs in Chilton. I do each and everyone in chassis... in under 5 hours and have had zero leak... If one were to leak, I would fix it for free, as I am the one that chose to do it that way... If it works, I don't see any reason to criticise anyone for choosing to do so... This is my response to the subject... first of all, there are not enough 7.3s left under warranty (if any) to worry about an adjustment of the SLT... second of all, I don't think there is anything wrong with doing it chassis, as we don't have an issue with repeat repairs, and down time is low. We charge the customer 1600 bucks, tech. gets 15 hours... everyone is happy. Maybe I am a hero...
  17. I have done countless sets of these things, never removed a cab once, and definately never been able to perform the final torque steps without ratcheting... and never had one come-back... I don't see it being an issue... I remember at a Cummins course I was at... a few heavy truck guys were saying that you are supposed to final tighten the TTY bolts on the bottom end with a gun.
  18. Ahhh... y'all spellet it rong... Stiction basically means static friction... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stiction
  19. We're so jammed you can't even get in the parking lot... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif
  20. It seems lately I've been seeing more and more Napa Gold one piece oil filters installed on 6.0s. Not only are these filters crap, the filter element is also not removable from the cap. So, if someone comes in for an oil change with one of these Crapa oil filters previously installed, your customer is going to be into the cost of a new cap as well. That being said, I just finished with a no-start F-550. The oil pressure guage did not move at all... I popped the hood to see the monstrosity sticking up/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif... turns out that this truck came straight from a lube shop with of all things the Econoline filter installed /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif... so the cap is twice the depth, keeping the oil filter about 4 inches above the drainback valve... New oil filter and cap installed, and it runs like a charm... you'd think somebody would have perhaps retraced their steps, since it was only after the oil change that the truck would not run /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/boink3.gif... So, 200 dollar tow, 80 dollar cap, 20 dollar filter and 160 dollars labor... 460 bucks by my math... plus tax... so, how much cheaper is the lube shop than the "stealership"?? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif Oh, that and the fact the batteries had been cranked dead by the good lube folks... sounds like lotsa cranking with a dry HPOP... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/flamethrower.gif
  21. I use the bleed hose each and every time. It takes less than 5 minutes, and gives me the reassurance that the air is gone.
  22. I had the exact same issue on a 2008, and also came to the conclusion it needed a PCM. I ordered one, which did not fix it. Turns out there was a wire broken inside the insulation right at the PCM connector that would make intermittent contact. I took a pin out of an old engine harness and spliced it in, since it was too close to the crimp to make a repair. Oh... the speedo would also hover around 40KPH when the vehcile was stationary when the concern was happening.
  23. Any error usually comes up as a 99. I find that it's normally a password error. Make sure that you've got an up to date NETS password. A quick contact to hotline will verify that. That, and making sure that it is entered into the NETS settings if the software has been recently updated.
  24. Just about anything you ever have to order for a Blue Diamond truck comes up as USA or NBO... they come straight from the vendor, so just emergency the parts and they normally show up next day.
  25. Thanks, Larry... I just got home from my trip... I'll find out Monday morning if our parts department was able to figure it out...
