6.7L Spy Pics and Rumors
Alex Bruene replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Maybe something to do with the UREA system? Maybe sometype of vapor recovery? -
It's been suggested that the inductive heating strategy is hard on FICMs... Personally I think I've replaced way more FICMs since that strategy came out than with the previous ones.

Defeated by the 6.4? SOLVED
Alex Bruene replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Keith, I worked with an FSE for a week for what sounds like about the same concern. He told me that he usually travels with parts and equipment, but coming into Canada makes border crossing difficult, so he came empty handed on my visit. The only thing he brought my way was a bunch of fasteners and gaskets, everthing else we ordered. -
Happy Canada Day!!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

I had one some time ago that I found running down the left head from the top. After hours of dye checking I determined it was coming from the rocker carrier to head seal. I pulled it all apart and found nothing visibly wrong, but I did replace the carrier and gasket and it has been okay. I wan't going to take a chance of only replacing the gasket to find out there was something wrong with the carrier and have to yank it all apart again.

And I'm sure a rumor is all it is.

I recall a few years ago, I was working for a Ford dealer about 30 minutes east of Toronto, in a BIG GM town... I mean BIG GM town ... a few of the GM dealers were union. One of the dealers' service department went on strike (for what I understand were ridiculous demands)... But low and behold, there was a non-union GM dealer across the street and a few doors down. While these "morons" were on strike, the dealer across the road got all the service work... the line up to get in their parking lot was down the road and around the corner. Everybody got a car wash, excellent "bend-over-backwards" service, and just about everything else the non-union dealer could do to try and win the customers over. Big union dealer strike was settled... but guess where all the customers were when they reopened... seems like they found a good, if not better place to service... good thinking guys!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/boink3.gif

'03 no-start ICP only up to 180
Alex Bruene replied to mchan68's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
In my experience, P2623 has always been a bad IPR... You must have a known good one lying around somewhere... as for air testing, there are 2 ways to do it. There is a port on the back of the pump cover that you can apply air to... PITA if you ask me. I like to apply air to the ports on the oil rails personally, as just about every early build I've ever had ICP issues with needed the pump dead-headed eventually to diagnose, so you'll probably be pulling the valve covers anyway. As for the turbo fart and smoke, you might just need a VGT relearn. -
4.5 misfiring under load
Alex Bruene replied to Alex Bruene's topic in 4.5L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
No kidding Keith. I can't believe how much more user friendly IDS is than MD Truck. The injector disable test isn't giving me anything to go on, and will not run under the conditions my misfire is present. I called the MD hotline, and was asked if I had a "suspect" cylinder. If I had a "suspect" cylinder, to replace all three cylinders on that bank. If the misfire was still present, swap the three injectors out with the three on the other bank... if it's still evident, replace the other three. Sheesh... ya think they could have added a phucking power balance test to that software! And, on top of that... the "autorun" portion of injector disable test and relative compression will not highlight in the menu, so I can't select them... arrrrrrrrrgh! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smhair.gif -
Has anybody ever had the pleasure of trying to diagnose a misfire under load? And if so, what did you do to figure out the suspect cylinder? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif

An EGR cooler leak can show combustion gasses in the coolant just as a head-gasket would. But in your case, since it sounds like you may have coolant getting in the exhaust, I would lean towards an EGR cooler issue, rather than a cylinder head sealing issue.

I think that people are still going to need commercial vehicles to operate their business. They will just have to raise their prices to reflect their expenses. All the towing companies that we use have all raised their hook-up charges by $20. I've asked for a raise to offset the cost of living increase... I suspect that the "elected" folks are going to have to step in eventually and do something about it, or risk major economic fallout all over the board.

Man... another miracle fix in a can is going to challenge my employment!

REPEATEDLY MELTED EBP SENSOR
Alex Bruene replied to OHNO60's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
No complaints of excessive regenerations. Complaints were lack of power and blowing coolant out of the degas bottle. The EBP sensor being melted was the cause of the lack of power. I had to remove and test both EGR coolers, and found no problems with either. They told me to replace the EDOC and recheck it. Okay so far, but it's only been a day. BTW, this is an F-550 boom-truck, so I'm sure it does it's fair share of idling... -
I just did the same. I was coming here to post it, but I see it would have been faster for me to check here first, instead of calling FOMOCO.

REPEATEDLY MELTED EBP SENSOR
Alex Bruene replied to OHNO60's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
The EDOC I was waiting for came in yesterday. I am replacing it as requested by hotline. Upon inspection of the original EDOC (which I did not remove prior to ordering), I don't see a damn thing wrong with it. A few more nuts and bolts to tighten up this morning, then I'll let y'all know! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif -
C-7 De-rate For Low Coolant?
Alex Bruene replied to Keith Browning's topic in General Diesel Engines
I have seen several with a check engine and stop engine due to low coolant... but I have never noticed if they will derate or not.
