Update... it's all done now. Wasn't that bad a job. Had to remove the transmission (which is no real differnce from the 6.0, other than 2 extra TC nuts, and the cooler lines disconnect quite nicely at the bellhousing), removed the turbo down pipe, unbolted the EDOC from the bracket and removed the pipe. I was able to (perhaps against my better judgement) remove the bolts from turbo inlet with a good chrome socket and a wobble extension without removing the EDOC (as the WSM says). Keep in mind that if you have to do one of these, use a good socket, cause them bolts is TIGHT!! Torqing was a bit of a PITA due to limited room, but I managed nonetheless. No noise anymore. SLT was 6.3, not bad for 3 hours work on the first go... And the nice thing is the WSM lists all the nuts, bolts and gaskets needed to perform the repair.

I did a few back in the spring and early summer which were MT. I did my first one since then yesterday to find there is an SLT now. 2.3 hrs... not bad... could be worse.

I am an advocate of keeping flashes up to date. It's too bad that the majority of folks that visit "other" forums think that a reflash is the route of all that is evil. -

I think he'll have a good time at a roadside check... kind of hard to hide that one... I sure hope that one day, he ends up at somebody here's dealership and they recognize the truck...

I don't like to crank them when I know they are hydro-locked... but I've seen guys do it with 6.0s and 7.3s with no ill-effects (that we are aware of anyway). I do however remember in CAT training, we were told that if an engine is hydro-locked, and you get it to turn over, you HAVE damaged a rod. Symptoms may not be evident right away, but will likely appear.

We are 0.5 for single battery systems, 1.0 for duals, 1.5 for triple battery systems for diag. 0.3 each to replace under hood batteries, 1.0 for one underbody battery and 1.5 for 2 underbody batteries. 0.3 each to replace batteries on a medium duty with dual or triple battery systems... Alternators are whatever the big red book says... sheesh... too much to think about... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif -

With the air filter being removed, all you can hear over the turbo spinning is... the turbo spinning.

Now that I've got your attention... I'm working on a 2008 F-450 pick-up. Under moderate to hard acceleration, at around 25 to 30 psi boost, it makes an awful high-pitched squeel/whistle noise from the right side of the engine compartment, that lasts for about a second... maybe 2. I've been able to produce the noise in the shop about 2 or 3 times (I have to load it up so severely, I fear for the transmission), and basically the sound is most evident from inside the right wheel well, and sounds like a 747 taking off. I imagine that I have a leaking exhaust manifold, but there is no soot anywhere (that I can see)... and smoke testing it doesn't show anything either. I've checked and tightened the CAC tubes to no avail. It also smokes (black) like an old hooker, which will likely require a DPF, but I think is a completely seperate issue. It's totally stock, and no codes (other than reaching the speed limiter). Any ideas?

Earlier today, as I was replacing my 7th blown LCF A/C compressor of the summer... I started to wonder... what's with all the damn blown LCF A/C compressors?

Are you sure that you may not have a high pressure oil leak? I find that 4.5s are terrible for leaking dummy plugs in the oil rail, especially the passenger side in my experience. Way worse for failure than 6.0s...

1996 f-350 diesel short help

If it's that intermittent, I would locate the splice where the circuit branches off, and install 5 amp fuse holders into all the other circuits in order to narrow down where the short is. -
It's not your truck, so you shouldn't make the funds your problem. Remember it pays 10.6 hours warranty to diagnose and replace an STC fitting in an E-box... so there's no reason that you shouldn't be able to sell the diag and repair retail for 15 hours or so. FYI, we sell retail Econoline HP oil leak diagnosis at 10 hours right out of the gate plus repair.

60-70 sounds to me like an broken injector, or a really bad STC fitting. In this case, I would remove a few bolts from the rear of each rocker cover and re-apply the air and pry up on the back of the covers a little bit to check if one side is infact worse than the other, but it is not 100% fool proof, because of the location of the STC, sometimes the right side does sound a bit louder.

Hah... I'm quoting myself... 2 year/unlimited mileage for the Cummins and Powerstroke, 3 year/150,000 mile for the C7. -

For some reason I believe it is a 2 year/unlimited mileage warranty. But I'll have to look into it a bit further to be sure. -

Well, lucky for me, I was up to my arm pits in a 6.0 when this one came in, so one of the other chaps in our shop got it. We are still trying to figure out how to estimate the job, since we are not equipped with any means of removing cabs, and no SLTs are listed for any of the cab on procedures... so I suppose it will be a guess for now... But, this truck also belongs to a fleet (whose name I won't mention, but it begins with the word "City") that purchases hundreds, if not thousands of vehicles a year from Ford, so who knows what will happen with this one...
