There is a post of "Stupidest thing you've seen a tech do" on the Ford message boards, so i thought you guys who cant read it would get a kick out of it. "saw a tech jump a starter solenoid on an old bronco once, truck was in gear, took off across the shop about 20 feet into a bulk tank of trans fluid (500 gallons) and harpooned the tank with the trailer hitch. had quite a nice flood!" "I saw a Tech. pull a municipal septic truck in a bay and get called to another job, another tech. was ask to finish the work on the truck it was an L800 , he went to back it out and when I looked over he had flipped the pump lever thinking it was the parking brake......... he unloaded 1/4 of the load before he figured it out. I still laugh about that." "I saw a Tech. pull a municipal septic truck in a bay and get called to another job, another tech. was ask to finish the work on the truck it was an L800 , he went to back it out and when I looked over he had flipped the pump lever thinking it was the parking brake......... he unloaded 1/4 of the load before he figured it out. I still laugh about that." "Saw one guy open a metal fuel filter that he just took off with his cut off wheel, of course it lite up on fire, lite his coolant bucket on fire which he used to catch the fuel into, kicked that out of they way of truck, caught his boots on fire, spilled coolant bucket on floor, it was on fire... all rolling down into the floor drain ..... s t u p i d !" "Saw one guy open a metal fuel filter that he just took off with his cut off wheel, of course it lite up on fire, lite his coolant bucket on fire which he used to catch the fuel into, kicked that out of they way of truck, caught his boots on fire, spilled coolant bucket on floor, it was on fire... all rolling down into the floor drain ..... s t u p i d !" "this is a classic! tech was installing 4 mudflaps on an 06 explorer which was being delivered to customer right after that(customer was ex CIA) tech installed the mud flaps into the forward part of the wheel well on the rear thereby sealing the rear doors shut, tech used FIVE INCH SCREWS! Then the tech released the vehicle,,,,, STONED MUCH" "Had a helper take a customer's car to the bank.Customer worked at said bank, drove car back to dealership w/spare keys.Helper exits bank to find car missing, walks back to sm's office, & tried to tell him he got "carjacked" on test drive, all while customer & dealer owner on conference call w/service manager regarding unauthorized "road tests"..." "just thought of another one- tech put new brakes on car, gets in car speeds off rack backwards with no brakes (of course) rams floor jack through concrete wall then slams the car into drive and peeled forward rams his toolbox into the wall in front of him. the whole shop was in the floor laughing. But the bad thing about it was all the bosses were standing in front of the service dept. with a FORD REP!!!!!!! They saw everything!!!!!!!" Ive done this "we had aguy here, not too bright not very paitent, spent 15-20 min beating a front rotor off of a explorer, well it finally came off and he continued to beat while its laying on the ground!!!" "For about a year I worked next to a guy who usually came in friday mornings "under the weather"& would often sleep through lunch in whatever car he was working on-occasionally having me(the young idiot)raise the car up so no one would bother him.One friday I left in a hurry & forgot to let the car down or wake him up.The police report concluded that the motion sensors were triggered by his falling 5 feet to the ground as he was found unconsious by the local law enforcement sent to investigate the alarm.I was obviously not his favorite person after that..." "Different tech (still from our heavy line shop). Showed up to work late. Completed oil change, didn't know or didn't care that it was a waiter and spent an hour running personal errands in the customer's vehicle. When the service manager called him on his cel phone and told him to return with the vehicle, he brought it back and proceeded to pass gas just before exiting the vehicle. Lady leaned into vehicle just enough to attempt to buckle in child car seat, pulled back gasping and nearly vomitted. She stated that the tech must be very sick and he should be taken to the hospital." "I saw a rookie tech grease the brake caliper nipple, where it suppost to bleed the brakes !! LOL" "Trans guy at nearby FORD dealer replaced clutch in a cobra and said well lets see what she'll do so while on Indy style r/t a Corvette pulled up next to him at a light and was mouthing off about something and my buddy said to himself come on man lets see what that vettes made of,he's banging gears, the cobra gets a little sideways but all ok til next light.Looks over and the guy in the vette is still mouthing off, this went on for three lites when my buddy says I'll roll the window down to hear this clown and the goy in the vette yells hey! you bastard thats my car....nice." "I know a tech that was replacing deck lid lift shocks on a Town Car outside of the shop. He climbed into the trunk feet and all. He popped the fist shock off and the decklid slamed shut! He was stuck in the trunk until another tech was passing by and noticed tapping noises coming from the quarter panel of the Town Car. He was traped for about 20 minutes" "Then there is this story that I regret telling but I am going to anyway, about a two weeks ago I came into work early load my tool cart was ready to be progressive, I was thinking about this job didn't pay attention to anything hook my air ratchet up went to use it it wouldn't work tried it again got very mad went to the back door of the shop launched into the scrap metal pile found out later they turned off the air compressor and drained it the night before, old faithful the air ratchet met its match that day" "Not a tech but funny. A customer of mine had bought a 2005 f-350 4X4 lariat powerstroke. He had about 8 bales of hay in the back and went to feed his cattle, he got the bright idea to put the truck in 4x4 low, put it in gear and let it drive itself while he rode in the back flaiking off the hay....It worked great..........He jumped out and went to the door and it was locked (the auto locking doors) he tried breaking the windows out and couldn't!..........He watched helplessly as it did a swan dive off a 40 ft cliff into the creek below!!......Totaled out!.....His insurance guy did not like him at all!" "Watched a tech hold up a driveshaft on his shoulder to reinstall while vehicle up on lift. When all the bolts were torqued he dropped his wrench and realized he couldn't get his head out (stuck between the driveshaft and gas tank. I let him stand there while I went to break and brought him a wrench after a few min." This is the best one .... "Taking a Police car back to the yard the tech saw the shuttle van fly by him, he decided to pull him over and the shuttle driver seeing it was the tech just went on driving. A under cover police officer thought it was a pursuit and joined in the chase. OPPS...ending up at the dealership with 5 police units a chopper and swat team behind..Service Director speachless, manager freaking out, and detailers running for cover..." There are soo many more, but those are the ones that have kept us laughing.

Tech was in 6.4 class (god knows why manager sent HIM there) and was told that 6.4's are cavitating behind the water pumps leaking coolant into the oil. Just giving u guys a headsup.

Jim, i honestly think, with the type of posts you made here, you would have to take a week off to post on the Ford message board. You would be so overwhelmed by the whiningof labor times, and good amount of badmouthing Ford. It's a form of entertainment now. The webmaster would be working overtime to try and delete ure posts... LoL

p2285 is usually always the sensor and connector (ive never seen a icp sensor not leak into the connector with this code). P2291 is oil leak somewhere. Last early 03 that was a p2291 no start was a blown o-ring under the HPP. Had 99,995 on the ticker. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif. No start hot? air leak test it. We had an extra HPP supply tube around and we threading a nut into the top opening so we could air leak test it with the cover off.

What sites are you posting on, i wanna see these.

I think we should all find 7.3's and run them on used atf like in the fmc forum /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif

Ok....IPR fixed the not going over 2500rpm and stumbling. The EBP rod kept popping off causing the excessive grey smoke because when i puta new clip on to secure it, the smoke went away, and wala had 10psi of boost, not much but i know. The rest of the stuff they said not to worry bout. #8 is weak, low on compression test. Didnt want any diag on the codes, but it starts right up in the morning. Y-pipe is leaking like crazy. Basically it needs amotor, they said it runs fine enough for them. Today i saw them driving it, F-550 we weighed it at 17,000#'s (had to see if we need bigger 2 post racks when truck shop was being built) towing a utility trailer with a bobcat on the back down the highway. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/boink3.gif They are usually good with maintaining them, but this one fell through the cracks i guess lol

Just some info on my first 6.4 diag

Heres from the hotline request "There are known chafe locations at the EVAP case, near the radiator and the right kick panel. Also check connector C110 which is near the master cylinder for pin issues. Check along frame rail, after the vehicle is repaired may have to use a starter button or push to start." He gave me a detailed description of how to jumpstart the vehicle and the very first thing he said was "make sure the owner is not around when you do this" -

Ive had 2 7.3's with bad PCM's. One was no map, lack of power (shorted pcm), and another for no start. -

Got our first 6.4 in for "runs rough, no pedal, wont accelerate" Performed eec test p242d. Checked oasis, new reprogram is suppost to fix this problem. Reprogrammed ECM, TCM, started right up, conern is gone. Reprogram IC, go to start it, no-crank,no-start. eec test on PCM P242D came back in ODDtcs. Performed pinpoint test, had open egt sensor #13, very straight-forward. I called hotline just to see why it didnt start after i reprogrammed the IC but did after i programmed just the ECM, TCM. He said that with the 13 sensor being open, the pcm thinks the exhaust is at 1400plus degrees and that is above threshold for safety. The IC sees the p242d and will not crank the truck over. Some do crank, some dont. They are going to release info about the new repogram. He went on to tell me 4 chafe spots associated with that code. YIKES!!!! Just a heads up if anyone has or will run into this sceonario.

SO keith if "something" isnt on the injector when we return it, ures never got questioned (im asking because im trying to talk the other diesel tech into letting me take his from the injector he is doing now)
-
i'm 6'5, and that hood hasnt gotten me yet. But i did count 10 "god damnit, stupid ass engineers"" from the other diesel tech after he kept hitting his head on the grill. LMFAO

I just did a head a week ago for it being warped now what? -
Dwayne, you took the words right my fingers. I have been doing that tsb too, but....but.... they havent been paying for it lately. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif

Here we go, through a IPR in it, now it revs up to 2500, stumbles, then goes to 3400, has little smoke coming out of the exhaust now. at 3400 rpm for 1 min icp was at 2000psi. heres the codes i aquired from 1 test drive. p0198,P0237, P0472, P0475, P0500, P0640, P0720, P1119, P1247, P1280, P1670, P1690. While on the test drive, the EBP rod fell off of the wastegate, it makes a max of 5psi at w.o.t. Yay, which one do i go after. I am going to attempt to secure the ebp rod and then retest drive.
-
The thing that bugged me was that hotline said it was getting too much fuel. They said either the cylinders were not getting hot enough ( base engine ) oil is aerated ( lack of maintainence ) or the IPR is sticking. Im just scared as to how for this company want to go into this truck, and im scared as to how far i want to go into this. I keep looking at the IPR at WOT not going over 30%. One engineer said that the HPP was the cause because ipr was at 7%, the 2nd one was like, "what the hell is he talking bout, IPR would ramp up if the pump was bad"
-
So i did all the checks that you guys suggested and the conclusion is either aerated oil (they said they just changed it but it looks like shit ), sticking IPR, or base engine. Knowing my luck it will be base engine.
-
yes to the empty cans in the cab, did i mention IPR was only at 7% at hot idle and never went over 31%. But icp voltages and readings are ok. Crankcase pressure test is useless because our gauge is busted, but there isnt much smoke coming out of the oil fill tube. Its smoking a lot outta the exhaust, and through the y-pipe. fuel pressure is at 60 drops to 55 at attempt of w.o.t. started it up this morning. started right away but 6,8 are dropping out, probably still have air in the system? idles good hot. throughout the span of 20,000miiles its had 1,2,and 5 injectors replaced, i replaced 4 and 7, injector self test sounds good on the replaced ones, and the factory ones are quieter then the replaced ones.

Post has been hi-jacked lol. The pedestal was rebuilt for a oil leak 20,000 miles ago, max boost is 2-3 psi. Smoke comes from under the hood, and billows out the exhaust, its grey, slight tint of blue. The ebp rod doesnt move from KOEO, to KOER, to w.o.t. Also, the intake tubes, and compressor side of turbe are completely encased in oil, turbine side is ok. Im starting to think that i have more then just one problem. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
