  1. Jayson I am going to disagree with the maintainence. My mom has a 03 accord and she has sooo much to keep up with or "HONDA WILL NOT WARRANTY THE FAILED PART" they told me. I asked the dealer when she was at 15,000 miles to doa 15k They wanted $400. THinking that, that was astronomical I called another Honda Dealer they said $650. They told me they had to adjust the valves in the Vtec engine ( i thought they were automatic ). My friend bought a Mitsubishi endeavor. There is soooooooo much to do on that at 30k its unbelievable. Honda dealers are packed selling shit like. Like i said honda owners take it in the wazoo when they go to the dealer and they love it. The publics misconception that the honda is the best vehicle in the world and Honda saying you have to perform regular maintainence or risk the voiding of ure warranty. that i dont get. What do we have on all the new vehicles.... 30k. trans flush oil change rotate. Jim me saying "there isnt enought work" stems to the truck side. I have 60 hour weeks, I have 30 hours weeks. I would love a steady stream of business but with another ford dealer 3-4miles away that wins the presidents award every year, has unhappy techs. A super small shop bad mouths us and takes some business away. Another is from the other post where service writers are incompitent on promises. They tell the customer it will be done today, when tehy havent even checked the status of the truck. other things are " THEY NEED THE TRUCK TONIGHT " I stay late to finish it, what the hell next morning its sitting out there and so hte following day. Again, I dont think i could leave the business, im still young and maybe i dont understand a lot. But you guys on this site motivate me to do " the right thing " and " FIRTFT. "
  2. Keith, the only thing I dont understand is how they say that the business needs a crap-load of techs. I am in Advanced Performance Diagnosis class which is at a UTI campus, and They pump kids out like nobody's business. THen you hear about what 800 Ford dealers closing? Is it just Ford that is doing it?
  3. Greg good post.... The thing that I see the biggest factor for techs leaving the business is A. No work B. the 6.4 and C. they dont think the future is bright for ford. Talking to you guys on this forum seems to make me think you guys have a lot of work, almost too much. Us, we have a brand new truck shop, brand new everyting, 6 bays that rarely get filled, and top of the line everything just waiting to be used. I get frustrated when their is no truck work. I have to find a way to put a escape on a 18,000lb 2 post. When the other diesel tech was gone for 5 days I booked 67 hours all truck hours. Now taht he is back, he grabs all the tickets and i have nothing to work on. I sit their, and on here contemplating why the hell I am doing this. I dont want to get out of the business because when we are busy I love working on trucks. It's a passion. When there is nothing to work on how can i pursue my passion. The 6.4 coming out is another reason I keep reading about. I think it had a way better launch then the 6.0. but older techs think otherwise. What does the future hold for Ford. That post about the canoe's is awesome and so true. Did the news get a hold of toyota recalling all the new V8 powerplants in the new truck because customers are complaining they sound like shit when they start in the morning. No. I know Honda and Toyota techs making a killing at their dealerships. I know a service writer at a honda store that says he RARELY gets work declined. Dont get me started on the euro market because those techs make a killing also. Blah, we'll see. THe more techs that get out means the more opportunities for us. I get super flustered when techs that go to work for huge companies like ComED, Henkels and McCoy, First Student that have boatloads of superduties, talk to me about how getting out of a dealership was the best thing they have ever done. How being hourly and taking as much time with no pressure to do a job on a truck is a dream. How the benifits are soo much better and how much less stress tehy have to worry about. I dunno those are my /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/2cents.gif
  4. That comment will fetch about a 2 page reply from him /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif
  5. Oh yea, Tony 1.....6.0... 0 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  6. Flmmaz in our new truck shop we have the 18k 2 posts.... those things are a pain when lifting cabs. The arms on them are huge.. I lifted a escape on one of mine /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif i'll get a picture next time i do it to show how close the arms are.
  7. flmmaz i remember the first time i tried it 6 months ago. I was like " yea, like thats going to work" and 15 sec later... PING... i was like holy crap. Also, (dont want to highjack the thread) use a 17mm turbo socket to loosen the rear turbo bolt on a early 03 if the 10mm part is stripped. That is a life saver.
  8. Bruce, I had a 6.0 do the EXACT same thing with the 1725. I made a post about it recently on all my findings and what hotline said..... Also did the truck run super quiet with no pedal response when you got it started with 16% IPR?
  9. Kevin monitor ect and eot, i would check that water pump because ive had broken shafts on those waterpumps causing ure exact problem...the pulley will turn and theimpeller will stay stationary, those also have the casting issue
  10. Ford Recalling 3.6 Million Vehicles By KEN THOMAS, Associated Press Writer 4 hours ago WASHINGTON - Ford Motor Co. said Friday it is recalling 3.6 million passenger cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles and vans to address concerns about a cruise control switch that has led to previous recalls based on reports of fires. Ford said the recall covered more than a dozen vehicle models built from 1992-2007. The company said it was responding to concerns from owners about the safety of their cars and questions about the speed control deactivation switch in the vehicles that is powered at all times. The Dearborn, Mich.-based automaker previously had recalled nearly 6 million vehicles beginning in January 2005 because of engine fires linked to the cruise control systems in trucks, SUVs and vans. "Customers remain concerned about the long-term durability of the speed control system and about the safety of their vehicles," said Ford spokesman Dan Jarvis. He said the automaker had received "a few reports of fires" in Ford Crown Victoria passenger cars prior to the recall. He did not have a precise number. The recall involves the following vehicles: 1998-2002 Ford Ranger, 1992-1997 Lincoln Town Car, 1992-1997 Ford Crown Victoria, 1992-1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, 1993-1998 Lincoln Mark VIII, 1993-1995 Taurus SHO, 1999-2001 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer. Also covered are the 2001-2002 Ford Explorer Sport, 2001-2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, 1992-1993 E150-350 vans, 1997-2002 E150-350 vans, 1993 Ford F-Series pickups, 1993 Ford Bronco, 1994 Mercury Capri, 2003-2004 Ford F-150 Lightning, and 1995-2002 Ford F53 motor homes. An additional 177,000 vehicles in Canada, Mexico and Europe are covered by the recall. Jarvis said there have been no deaths, injuries or accidents associated with the recall. It was Ford's sixth recall, involving a total of more than 10.4 million vehicles, conducted since 1999 because of problems with the speed control system, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The nation's largest single recall involved 7.9 million Ford vehicles in 1996 to replace an ignition switch. Texas Instruments Inc. supplied the speed control switch in all of the vehicles covered under Friday's announcement, Ford said. A TI spokeswoman could not immediately comment. Owners will begin receiving recall notices on Aug. 13. Jarvis said the parts for passenger cars would not be available until early October. In the meantime, owners can take their vehicle to a dealer to have their cruise control deactivated until the parts arrive. The parts are available for trucks, Jarvis said. Dealers will install a fused wiring harness into the speed control electrical system or replace the deactivation switch if its found to be leaking. Owners with questions about the recall can contact Ford at (888) 222-2751. ___ On the Net: Ford Motor Co.: http://www.ford.com/
  11. I cant wait til jim replies...lol
  12. Well Rick, I will admit that the service manager and dispatcher came out to me and apologized for the ignorance of the service writer. Now the guy took the day off so i have to look at the job taken apart all day tying up a truck rack. while i do stupid cosmetic bitching shit on a 08 F-450 (headlamp switch paint peeling, window making noise) and the owner doesnt understand he needs to use USLD not LSD, then badmouths the truck. Our service manager ALWAYS looks at whats fair to the techs before anything else. It wont happen again he said. Those are the perks of an awesome service manager. He understands that these 6.0's are unpredictable so he doesnt get on our case. When i had to reseal a 3rd member on a 550 all the gas guys shut their mouths about how much the "diesel princes" make when they saw how big it was.
  13. As far as doing our own writeups.... I get the truck, get to the point on what it came in for.. do the MPI sheet, give them the prices on parts and what it needs. The Service writer figures out labor times, discounts, and 8 times out of 10 sell more then what i rec. I dont like blowing the customer out of the water, especially on first time visits, that is a big no no for me. I do constantly recognize what companies come in most, and who takes care of their trucks, I understand whats "TOO MUCH" on an estimate. I know how to tell them, "yea, they can go one more oil change, or NO WAY its a matter of safety." That is one reason Henkels and McCoy only bring their trucks here and keep us alive. ComEd is one of those companies that if one dealership says enough is enough u need to stop doing this we cant cover it anymore they just go to the next one. Consiquently we are that dealership now, waiting to tell them stop using b20. There are techs in the gas shop that dont give 2 shits about the customer. Blow them out of the water for something simple like the customer coming in for a dome light stays on, and leaving with a $3,000 bill. If the service writer doesnt sell it the techs start fuming and gets pissed off refusing to work on the car til they get some "gravy." That pisses me off. There is one tech that doesnt understand "you win some you lose some" There is another tech that told a service write who had a question about something he was trying to sell basically told him "just sell the goddamn job it needs all of it, tell the customer to bring their checkbook and shut up." Then turned to me and laughed and i felt sick to my stomach. (that car came back for the concern it was origianally in for" I reached my boiling point when that same tech pulled in a 2005 F-350 6.0 with brakes grinding, LOF, and fuel filter. He asked me how to rack it, he asked me questions. HE gave the customer a $2500 bill. I am knee deep in 6.0 warranty work because other tech is on vacation. One of the service writers gave it to him (who we all hate). I was in the middle of doing a Y-pipe on a early 03 6.0. When i saw the truck and the write up. i felt at ease because i knew i would get it especially because its a diesel. When the asshole pulled it in I ran up to the service writer who handed it to him ( it was his ticket ) and flipped out and then told the service manager. The guy that hands out work was on lunch, i told him afterwords that will never happen again, if it does i quit. Its not fair. It really isnt. Did he get repremanded...no... did anyone say anything to me...no.... stuff like that makes me want to quit. If it happens again, i will. There are times when me and the other diesel tech are slow and we go to get something, they tell us "we have nothing" and the gas guys are doing loads and loads of flushes, brakes. I'll be damned if they take jobs away from me and Andy. Thanks for letting me vent, i needed it.
  14. Jesus Bruce thats awesome. Totally going to help me when winter comes. I basically did a oil change, fuel filter and air filter and shipped it.
  15. We had a customer come in with a F-250 6.0, it had every mod you could think of, propane, nitrous, the whole bullydog kit, ported injectors ( he said ). his degas bottle was overflowing and truck was overheating.... our manager turned him away and said there is no way we are covering that, heres the customer pay price to to start diag. When he left there was the biggest cloud of back smoke in front of the "stealership" as he called us.... whos regulating that?
  16. Jim, your posts motivate me to become a better tech and think outside the box and read between the lines of the workshop manual. I have become a much better 6.0 tech because of it. Kudos Keith and Jim and everyone else on this website for the motivation to actually like my job when the frusdtrations reach their peak. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  17. i know that when they get low taht they shut off....thats happened to me tons of times when the o-rings leak on the high pressure pump. I was checking if anyone found some messed up concerns like this one before. Verdict is neglect on this one i guess....ComEd and their damn bio-diesel 6.0's and neglected 7.3's.
  18. Alright, 2003 F-550, 98,000 miles, towed in, 9 qts low... no oil leaks, no blue smoke, no oil sticker, dirty air filter, runs awesome after the 9 qts did all diag /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/scratchhead.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  19. IM not going to tell you what I got once for doing E450 balljoints bcuz u guys would kill me and i dont think anyone has ever gotten as much as i did, but 4x4 SD we get 6 plus alignment. I usually take them apart fully. F-450 2wd we get 5.0, and 2wd f250-350 we get 3.6.
  20. The e350 i did an engine harness on, well i did a oil cooler to it after taking the upper radiator hose off and seeing the chocolate milk effect. Since there was only 1 line on the R.O. i had to plead to do the job ( customer was sick of van in shop ). The whole time im doing the oil cooler i was thinking bout the egr cooler and them not letting me do it. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif U guys can start the ticker now til it comes back for the egr cooler and the customer looking like this /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif
  21. How do u get those pictures up on the postd keith?
  22. only time before we see banners for XXX sites to pay the bills eh keith? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif
  23. dunno if this is going to be a common concern, but just did a no-crank on a 6.4 with a 6spd and found the clutch switch connector harness stretched and chafed away, just giving u guys the heads up.
  24. And then to top it all off you're pretty much replacing both cam and cranks sensors the first time, then the harness. I hate to say it but thats the only way to get those int. ones diaged. I've done that on a few and they've never came back for the same concern. All the times iver heard of a crankshaft thrust bearing causing no sync the techs have stumbled upon it on accident. I want to see one, but i think ive only heard bout that on the early 03's
