What's everybody using for their IDS? Anything that seems to be pretty much indestructible? Some of the monkeys I work with can break just about anything with a usb port. I was curious if anyone has a setup that has two wireless internal cards to eliminate the usb issues.

Did you try updating from syncmyride.com? More then likely it sounds like you APIM has gone tits up. There may be extended coverage on your APIM, but you'll have to contact a dealership to verify.

broken injector hold down bolts

update: Well I decided to send the head out to a machine shop after having no luck drilling one out. They told us they were going to have to helicoil it and we decided to just get a new head so it would carry a service parts warranty. -
If it were my call I'd show her the TSB and explain how it is a known problem. Also, where had she been between 100,000 and 150,000? I would think if she had come back to your dealership again you probably would have recommended the spark plugs at some time in that interval. If I had to refund money I would do it just for the amount that you would have charged her through your shop, not the raping that they gave her.

I know these tools are geared towards an assembly line type of setting, but I can't wait to see a service field oriented version. https://youtu.be/WSYqLGFUXMI

IDS 92.01 VCM Comm Issues?
nelsona19 replied to Keith Browning's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
I just upgraded to 95.01, I was diagnosing my wireless for the vcm, when I saw an update was available through the update tab in the VCI manager. Even though it told me through the IDS to VCM connection screen it was "up to date". By the way the dongle on the laptop end had gone bad. It would still connect to the VCM through the wireless manager in the laptop but would not connect to the IDS software. So it pays to have an extra dongle laying around to diagnose any connection issues. Instead of reinstalling IDS software and updating drivers all day just to find this out. -

Just thought everyone should know there is a manual update for VCMII firmware through the Update tab in the VCI manager. -
broken injector hold down bolts

not warranty, decided to pull cab to give me access to drill them out -
I'm doing fuel system replacement for contamination. While removing the injectors #7 & 8 injector hold down bolts broke off in the head. I was using 3/8 long ratchet to break them all loose. Both are sticking up enough to weld, so I tried that, no luck, soaked and heated also, no luck either. Any ideas?

Crossover tube gasket failure.

I just had a set of these last week. I thought it was kinda weird too. Maybe there's a trend staring to develop? -
Anyone tried one of these yet? I was curious if they really work but for $70 not willing to pony up the cash myself. I might if they made it in a 21mm to get those f150 lug nuts loose that somebody use a 3/4 impact to tighten.

I had one of these recently, ended up being restricted pcv valve.

Found out this morning that my shop is going union. Anybody been through this process? Sounds like it will be a good deal for us if it goes through.

I change out my chain tensioners on my 05 f150 about every 40k, seems to be the magic number for the gaskets blowing out.

Had a customer come in with low fuel pressure message on the dash, dropped to 10deg F last night, checked for gellling, found a wierd brown liquid came out of water seperator drain and smelled like gasoline and kerosene mixed? pulled fuel filters and found evidence of gelling, I noticed the stuff I pulled from the separator would mix with the fuel like water also, Then I saw it in the door of the truck. The diesel mechanic in a bottle, an it was strangely the same color as the stuff from the separator, and smelled very similar. This guy just cost himself a few hundred bucks by saving himself a few dollars by not not just buying some decent anti gell.

With warranty times and even custmer pay times hitting an all time low and some of the prior approval and warranty proccesses getting worse and worse. I've decided after 15 years of this crap it's time to get out, maybe. I have an oppertunity to get the family farm and move out of the city. I was looking at maybe working for a farm implement dealer(case/ titan). Anyone got any experience with this type of job? Not sure what to expect for pay. I was told it should be hourly at least. I would find it hard to believe that this field could be any worse than what I'm dealing with now, but I could be wrong. Thanks guys.

IDS 92.01 VCM Comm Issues?
nelsona19 replied to Keith Browning's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
just got donw contacting hotline with same issue and this fixed it: 1.Disconnect the VCM II from IDS and the vehicle, close the IDS program.2.Click on the Desktop tile > bottom left corner is an icon that looks like 4 squares > right click and in the menu select Search > search for VCI Manager and you will see listed VCI Manager (Ford-VCM-II) > right click and in the menu select 'Run as administrator'.3.Connect the VCM II to the PC using the USB cable.4.The 'Repair USB' button will appear to the right of the 'Product Help' button.5.Press the button to begin the quick repair process. This work-around should only need to be done once. -
exhuast leaks into the cabin, rear power liftgate issues, door latch issues, sun roofs sticking, axle seal leaks...oh and SYNC. just to mention a few, but other wise they're pretty solid.
