They need to make this shit black and white and stand behind us on it. There should be absolutely no fucking reason techs get thrown under the bus in these situations. After all we are only doing what we are told to by our management. And this shit needs to fucking stop somewhere. If they handle this situation correctly, the techs will be allowed to make the proper calls that Ford is looking for. But Ford needs to grow a set of fucking balls and step up to the plate on this. This is a topic that always burns my ass.

We have been running into this problem very frequently lately. If I have only one bank that is affected, I quote for all four on that bank as a recommendation. If it's both banks, then I'll quote for all eight as a recommendation. However, I leave the end decision up to the customer as Mike said being that it is their money. The odd customer has opted not to if they don't have allot of money and just can't afford it. But generally most of my customers who can afford it do not want to go back into that affected bank with the risk of more diag and labour costs involved. The customers that replace only the causal injectors always wind up back paying for more. It's a shitty situation for the customer, but I find that if you're just honest with them, they usually always appreciate to honesty and the fact that you are trying to save them money in the end even if they don't have the money at that point in time. So in the end my advise is to not to look at it as a quote. Just be honest and quote based on recommendations to prevent major future costs. Come to think of it I just may change the way I quote from now on by writing "recommend" on the side of my injector estimate. I have never done this yet because of the fact that I usually wind up talking to my customers and explaining why I quoted the way I did or Kenny (Service Manager) does it. At least if I have recommend written there, the advisors will pick up on it and know what I'm talking about.

They were 10 times better than the competition's 6.2L of that vintage though. And the glow plug sytems on the 7.3 were way better than what the 6.9L had. That danged Chev Wrangler I used to have was the most gutless pile O' crap I ever drove in my friggin life. I kid you not when I say it couldn't pull itself up a big hill or through a dead on wind. You could at least pull a travel trailer with a 7.3L. There was no such farmer in all of Saskatchewan who would even dare put a utility trailer behind a 6.2L Chevy. The 7.3's were the true work horse of that day.

Did the Nazi even speak clear English? I wonder if Ford is subletting The warranty reviews over to Saudi Arabia just like telemarketers do. Oh Fuck! Now that I've said it, They'll probably get some crazy ass ideas.

Cool! What does it run for a power plant?

Can the dealer see a programmer?
DwayneGorniak replied to Keith Browning's topic in The Water Cooler
This is such a frustrating topic, isn't it? You go to Ford Tech School all these years and get it pounded into your head that all this aftermarket performance shit is fraudulent and no way in hell are we supposed to warranty this shit. Here we are on the front lines battling this shit and never have any concrete support or back up. Kinda reminds me of the early wars when soldiers used to march toward each other and shoot at each other. It seems we are left to march all on our own to our own deaths. Fucking frustrating! -

Being that there seems to be an option for cab and chasis, I would say Your Op's manager is full of something. -
cant install service body
DwayneGorniak replied to dieseldoc's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Maybe this is the right time for everyone in the industry to rethink the way they make Service body's. However, that sounds a little weird. Was that info right out of the horses mouth, right from Ford? -
I really wasn't sure where to post this as a topic. So I decided to post it here seeing as the T.I.V. is an F-450 chasis with a 7.3L and ZF manual tranny. I just watched this on National Geographic HD and was blown away with this. Some folks may think this shit is absolutely crazy, but I think it is freakin amazing. Man, I'm not sure if would like to be a mobile tech for these guys or not, but it sure would be interesting. It cost this guy $100,000.00 to build this vehicle. It is an armor plated vehicle with bullet proof glass and over 8000lbs of steel armor. The vehicel weighs just over 14,000lbs total and will do 100mph. It is built to literally drive right into the middle of a tornado funnel and gather scientific information and Dopplar Radar info about the tornado's. These guys work in cooperation with Doppler On Wheels. Oh, and they were succesful in driving it into the middle of a Tornado. Allot of this filming is done for Imax. Crazy shit man! Here's some links for it: http://www.hprcc.unl.edu/nebraska/tornado-intercept-vehicles.html http://www.cswr.org/dow/DOW.htm

I just want to say, Happy New year to all ya all on this site and may you all have a better and prosperous new year than we had in this recession year of 09'. holy crap, I beat Larry and keith to this one.

This is the path Ford has lead us down. We actually used to have morals and do everything possible to "Fix Right First Time". Now it's all about keeping the numbers down and being resulting to shit like this. All across North America, Ford used to have the best Service Departments out there. But now, it's become a joke! It has become all about "Fix it Cheap The First Time" and "Fix It For Free A Second Time".

These nazi's even write our freakin TSB's. Anyone paid any attention to TSB 09-19-10? I just had an 08' in the shop with DTC's P042F, P242F, and P2463. Cleared Dtc's and watched EGR as duty cylcle was commanded. EGR valve was very slow to respond. Fire engine up and all three DTC's come back immediately. And this fucker will not complete or even allow a manual regen. So....I reprogram the PCM according to TSB 09-19-10, right? According to the TSB it states: SERVICE PROCEDURE Reprogram appropriate vehicle modules before performing diagnostics and clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) after programming. For DTCs generated after reprogramming, follow normal diagnostic service procedures. Great, I still have the same fucking hard faults. No biggie, I'll fix it anyway. I put an EGR valve in it and presto! Yee haw, she's good for a road test. Go for a burn, it completes regen. Life is good. Now, I try to get paid for what I've done. At the end of the TSB it states: 091910A 2008 F-Super Duty Automatic Transmission: Reprogram The PCM / TCM / IC (Do Not Use With Any Other Labor Operations) 0.5 Hr. Oh fucking great! So I am to follow this fucking TSb and reprogram the fucking PCM and if any DTC's return forget about getting paid for what I've just done and fix the truck anyway by allowing myself to be charitable to FOMOCO. Fuckers! Here's the TSB: Printable View (184 KB) TSB 09-19-10 6.4L - VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 8/3/2007 AND 1/2/2008 - MODULE REPROGRAMMING Publication Date: September 17, 2009 FORD: 2008 F-Super Duty This article supersedes TSB 9-16-10 to update the Customer Information sheet. ISSUE: Some 2008 F-Super Duty 250-550 vehicles equipped with a 6.4L diesel engine and built between 8/3/2007 and 1/2/2008 may require a calibration update which will cover several different concerns. ACTION: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. NORMAL OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS - EXHAUST SYSTEM REGENERATION This document provides additional information on the conditions of normal operation while the vehicle is in the exhaust filter regeneration process. These are normal conditions and do not require repair. For most driving conditions, normal exhaust filter regeneration will begin anywhere from 100-600 miles (161-966 km) from the completion of the last regeneration cycle. Each occurrence will last from 10-40 minutes. The exhaust filter regeneration process will not initiate or may be terminated when: The vehicle is stopped at idle for more than 5 minutes in gear. The vehicle is operated in Power Take Off (PTO) mode. Stationary Elevated Idle Control (SEIC) is engaged. The gear selector is placed in Park or Neutral. Vehicle characteristics change during the exhaust filter regeneration process: Some white smoke in cold ambient temperatures is normal. The amount of white smoke during this time will be increased during exhaust filter regeneration. The engine's peak power is modestly limited during regeneration. Engine responsiveness may be slightly different than normal operation during regeneration. Exhaust smell may be noticed during the exhaust filter regeneration process - especially on new vehicles. The powertrain sound will be different during exhaust filter regeneration including air induction noise, combustion noise, flutter on deceleration or shut down. SERVICE PROCEDURE Reprogram appropriate vehicle modules before performing diagnostics and clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) after programming. For DTCs generated after reprogramming, follow normal diagnostic service procedures. Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to the latest calibration using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) release 61.19 and higher or 62.07 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2009.7 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com. When reprogramming the PCM on automatic transmission equipped vehicles the transmission control module (TCM) will also automatically be reprogrammed to the latest level. Please print out the customer information sheet attached to this TSB and insert into the glove box with the Owners Guide for future customer reference. NOTE: REPROGRAMMING CONCERNS / ERRORS MAY BE CAUSED BY THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) OR VEHICLE COMMUNICATION MODULE (VCM) BECOMING DISCONNECTED, LOW BATTERIES ON THE IDS OR THE IDS GOING INTO ANY TYPE OF SLEEP MODE, OR LOW VEHICLE BATTERY VOLTAGE. TO PREVENT VEHICLE BATTERY DISCHARGE DURING REPROGRAMMING A POWER SUPPLY CHARGER ROTUNDA NUMBER 162-00043 OR EQUIVALENT SHOULD BE USED. IF THERE WAS AN INTERRUPTION DURING REPROGRAMMING, MAKE SURE THE ORIGINAL IDS SESSION THAT WAS CREATED FOR THE VEHICLE IS NOT DELETED. IF THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE SESSION IS NOT USED OR DELETED BEFORE THE MODULES ARE COMPLETELY REPROGRAMMED, FURTHER REPROGRAMMING ERRORS CAN OCCUR. THE MODULE RECOVERY PROCEDURE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND IT IS CRITICAL THAT MODULE SWAPPING IS NOT PERFORMED FROM VEHICLE TO VEHICLE. TO REGAIN COMMUNICATION WITH A MODULE THAT HAS BEEN ERASED DURING REPROGRAMMING, RESUME THE ORIGINAL SESSION ONCE THE IDS IS RE-BOOTED. Calibration Update Includes: Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) regeneration will no longer initiate in Park or Neutral and in power-take-off (PTO) mode. When Drive to Clean Exhaust Filter is displayed on the instrument cluster PTO and/or stationary elevated idle control (SEIC) must be disengaged / inactive in order to properly clean the DPF. The vehicle must be driven until the Cleaning Exhaust Filter message is extinguished. Diagnostic and malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) operation improvements for DTCs P0128, P0196, P2002, P006B, P2563, P0108, P0234, P1260, U0073, P042E, P042F, P0404, P1335, P041C, P2457 and P2263 set during key on engine running (KOER) self test. Reduced vehicle surge and improved resume function during cruise control operation. Improved cold start drivability for vehicles operated in temperatures below 32 °F (0 °C). PTO Content: Vehicle speed output signal used by vehicle upfitters will now read zero when vehicle is stopped. PTO idle engagement RPM ramp rate revised. Improvements to reduce P0544, P2031, P242A, P242B, P2080, P2084 and P117B set on long decelerations after cold start. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) disable function at idle is now determined by exhaust temperature and not idle time. Revised pressure control valve (PCV) / volume control valve (VCV) learning tables for vehicles that exhibit DTCs P0087 and/or P2291 following replacement of the high pressure pump or major fuel system repairs. Reset the PCV / VCV learning tables and fuel injector parameters with IDS using the clear fuel injector parameters. Enhancements for vehicles that exhibit white smoke during DPF regeneration at ambient temperatures below 55 °F (13 °C). Resolution for vehicles that exhibit a No Crank condition, failure mode effects management (FMEM) continuous timer count down due to Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor disconnect while performing system diagnostics or vehicle battery disconnect. IDS tool updates for DPF manual regeneration diagnostic testing referenced in Powertrain Controls/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Pinpoint Test RB. This calibration also includes the following instrument cluster (IC) message center display updates: Drive To Clean Exhaust Filter, Cleaning Exhaust Filter and Exhaust Filter Drive Complete. Please see the Customer Information Sheet for additional information. Yawl' need to get sumthin straight. THEY AIN'T NO FUCKING GODS! They are nothing more than fucking "DEMONS" or "NAZI'S"! Yawl' want to call em' Demon's or Nazi's, I'm fine with that. But they ain't no FUCKING GOD'S! Got it?

Niiiiice. I wonder when we'll get to see those Baby's on the market.
-
Yup, there sure is. These fuckers (diesels) are bleeding Ford dry and Ford is trying to put a cap on it by capping it off at our end. With TSB's like this, it's going to be hard to attract new diesel apprentices into the Ford scene. I already see young guys in the trade saying they're not even gonna bother with the diesel certification and I have been seeing it for the last "SEVEN" Years.

Fuck Sakes! I don't even know what to say anymore. Thieving bunch of Mother Fuckin Savage bastard Warranty Nazi's. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Dammit Aaron, You just made me run out of alcohol reading this shit. Now I gotta run to the liquor store and stock up again. Fuck!
-
The cost is just simply the damned cost of doing business. If you don't invest into your business, shit will literally fall apart and you will have nothing left to work with. Don't you guys love it when you hear on the radio commercials when dealerships claim that have all the latest state of the art equipment. I used to laugh my ass off at that one.
-
That's true in alot of situations. But when a tech has to start buying shop equipment that "SHOULD" be bought by the shop, well that's just plain friggin wrong and downright friggin cheap which justifies a technician to find a new employer. No Ford diesel tech should ever have to buy a friggin proper engine stand. That is just downright fuckin wrong!

F series remote lock
DwayneGorniak replied to dieseldoc's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
They do come on sale quite frequently for $99.00 up here at Canadian Tire. Reg. $199.00 and they have a manual trans option. That's a Prostart brand name. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoAccessories/RemoteCarStarters/PRD~0340744P/ProStart%2B4-Button%2BRemote%2BStarter%2Bwith%2BKeyless%2BEntry%2Band%2BAlarm.jsp I have an Ultra Start in my 99' with a ZF six speed. -
Fuel Filter Mess
DwayneGorniak replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I pretty much do what Bruno does, but just a wee bit different. Pull out the secondary filter and leave it out, then go and do the primary filter, then put the secondary filter in the housing without the lid on it, get an apprentice to cycle the key on untill fuel is about 3/4 the way to the top and yell....Whhhhoooooo! Put the lid on and cycle the key twice and your Taco Bell (Good to Go). -
Jim, I wasn't Implying that Safety should be Ford's commitment. I was Implying that allot of dealerships are just "Too Plain Fucking Ignorant" to give a Fuck about the safety factor in having proper equipment like this. And I was getting at the fact that Ford would have to make these tools "Mandatory" tools before allot of these fucking dealerships would even consider reaching into their pockets to buy the proper equipment. Just an observation: I haven't seen you wear all that gear for A/C flush machine either.

to cab off or not
DwayneGorniak replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
You don't even have to try to convince me of cab removals. You gotta vote from me for Cab removal. Like that was ever a question about my opinion, right? I have been in the situation many times with 6.4L's especially where I am either waiting for parts or a damned warranty approval and i have to lower the cab and push the P.O.S. outside. Down with the cab, hook up the steering knuckel and drag her out. Done! -
You know, it's always bothered me that Ford comes out with a standard procedure that requires a standard tool such as an engine stand for example and then they don't make a standard policy that every dealership certified to do these repairs has to have these standard tools to do these standard repairs. What bothers me the most about all of this is that alot of dealerships won't even consider the safety involved just because they are simply too damned cheap! Saving a buck is more important than saving limbs its seems. Bruce, that engine stand in your post is the one we have here at S.L. Ford. Man I love that stand. Jut simply crank the handle to rotate the engine. Ahhhh, it's just so damned effortless and Fucking Safe!
-
Bruce, you have no idea how much I bitched about that piece of shit stand. I told them the same thing over and over about all the weight being up that high. With that stand, you actually had to pull the intake off, because it would hit the bottom of the stand when the engine was flipped over. Don't even get me started on why I own my own Battery charger/booster. That shop had only one when I bought mine. And then I had to put a label on it with my electronic labeler stating: "PROPERTY OF DWAYNE GORNIAK! FUCK OFF AND GO USE THE SHOP EQUIPMENT!" If you look in that photo on the other side of the engine stand......there's my battery charger.
