My First Catastrophic 6.4L Failure
DwayneGorniak replied to mchan68's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
They are friggin tight. But way way easier with Jim's new torque multiplier. I just wish I would've been smart enough to pop out the filter minder and stick the Brake Clean nozzle into that fucker while it was runnin. It would have been so much easier on my ass. -
I just got back from the Hybrid classroom course. I went into the course being very skeptical of the product and not understanding allot about it. But I have to say: I came out out of this course very impressed with the product. It is the first time in a long time that I have been this impressed with the product I am working on. The two best words that i can find to describe these Hybrids is "RELIABILITY" and "SIMPLICITY". Before every one gets all critical about these Hybrids, I'll make a few points about them. The Hybrid vehicle isn't for everyone. Country folk who have to drive through shit terrain on a daily basis would never benefit from one of these. However, it is a great product for a lot of people in cities, big towns, or even just outside of cities who commute short distances. It is a no brainer as far as I am concerned for Taxi companies or in town couriers. If you had to drive five or fifteen miles everyday across a city like many Companies or commuters do this would cut their maintenance costs drastically. You could be sitting in a traffic jam going no where and not have the engine running and pumping money out the tail pipe for nothing. The simplicity of these things is amazing. Yeah, we as techs are going to see some failures in parts. But that is what we do for a living. But I can tell you that I don't think we will see failures on a regular basis. Yes the Battery packs are expensive. But that is why they have a great warranty. And I can't see why we wouldn't have aftermarket battery exchange programs in the next ten years from companies like NAPA who already have battery exchange programs. The Fusion was definitely thought out a little more than the Escape being that every module is serviceable without the battery pack. But Ford learned with the Escape first and implemented their upgrades in a nice new package which became the Fusion Hybrid. Hopefully the Escape may get some nice upgrades in the future. Not that it is a bad unit. It is still a very nice unit. As far as I am concerned, anyone who just putts around town and makes small trips for shopping and never really goes on cross country trips really should consider buying one of these especially if they are all worried about having a healthy clean environment for their grand children. Just my

What? What did I miss? Just got back from school, so I'm not sure what the hell you're talkin about.

Thank God the injectors are external. They finally learned something. But, the injection pump is still internal to the engine at the front, Right? I wonder how it will hold up to leaks and whether or not it will overfill the crankcase if it leaks. But Man, am I freakin happy that they didn't stick the injectors under the valve covers. And the EGR and EGR cooler system looks awesome.......so far.

We're constantly going through the same bullshit as well.

Who makes the best drill bits?
DwayneGorniak replied to Mekanik's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
I have used The Thunderbits for years as well. I don't think you beat them for the price and the quality. I haved tried many different brands over the years as well as Mac Cobalt bits and they are absolute crap. -
I find that if I lay the turbo's on the work bench with the exhaust turbine facing downward I almost always get oil leaking past the seal. This is normal. You can drill a 1/8" hole in the bottom of the muffler at the back side to see if there is still coolant in the muffler. I have had many of these that have taken a shit load of bag driving to get all the coolant out of the exhaust. The other possibility is that the blown head gaskets have taken out the new EGR cooler which is rare but not impossible. Have you re-pressure tested the system and applied the Radkit plus to it since? Just some thoughts.

6.4L DPF Delete Warning Letter
DwayneGorniak replied to mchan68's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
That letter was sent to us by Ford and I remember Kenny passing it around the shop for us all to read. You know, just for some update info. But I think that Kenny should have left it in it's original format with all the Ford headers or titles on it instead of putting our dealerships name on it. Kenny was thinking that this letter would help deter customers from modifying their trucks. But, if you have a small dick, you will stop at nothing to have a cock pump even you are warned about all the side effects. -
No, I don't take tings too literally, I just keep forgetting to put in those damned little smiley's and little pokin guys.

Have you forgotten about the Firestone recall? CONSTRUCTIVE criticism... THAT is what built the land we live in. Hmmmm, Reeeaaallllyy? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Pacific_Railway_in_British_Columbia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Pacific_Railway http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Chinese_immigration_to_Canada

Anyone noticed on the news that the cruise control recall is in effect again? Why didn't we just replace the leaking switches that cause fires with switches that don't leak and cause fires in the first place?

Just your average, regular, four door family sedan
DwayneGorniak replied to Aaron's topic in The Water Cooler
Got to drive one yesterday. All I can say is; Yeeeee Fuuuuccckkkkkiiiiiiin Haaaaawwwww! Man them beggers go! I love the car all around. It is a total sleeper. It feels like a high end luxury car when you sit in it and It handles like a sports car. And it goes like a MOFO. The interior information centre and console reminds me of the 90's Mark VIII's and Thiunderbirds. If I won the lottery, there would be one parked in my new mansion with a tiled floor garage. -
6.4L HPP Gasket Shorted #2
DwayneGorniak replied to joshbuys's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Ha ha! I did the same thing when I was at Fourlane. I had a turbo pump oil into the exhaust. After the turbo replacement was done, I had crawled underneath and drilled a hole into the muffler and let it drain into an oil pan. I had a couple of salesmen going that I was doin an oil change on the muffler. Ahh, good times. -

All Injectors Stuck Open/ Engine failure
DwayneGorniak replied to walleyewarrior's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Let your Service Manager make the executive decision that he or she should and quit taking that kind of responsibility on your own shoulders. It is their job to make these decisions and it our job to report all finding and let them deal with it. A sample would be a very good idea though. Hope that helps. -
6.4L HPP Gasket Shorted #2
DwayneGorniak replied to joshbuys's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have done one like that as well. But I turned the bracket around facing backwards. there is absolutely no reason allot of these brackets can't face backwards unless they have a picker that interferes with them. The one I did was a picker truck and still had lotsa room. -
All Injectors Stuck Open/ Engine failure
DwayneGorniak replied to walleyewarrior's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Yup! It seems that whenever we have an injection failure on these babies, The fuckers are blowed right the fuck up. Always a complete drop in in this case. They don't pay worth a fuck either. good luck. -

First off, I say your Nuckin Futs to try to do it by pulling the tranny. Not trying to be mean or offend you, but that idea is still Nuckin Futs! I hope you have lotsa bandaids. That job would be alot like finger fucking a Porcupine. I think your fingers will be in places that they were just never meant to be in. Has anyone else done it this way? That cover is a mother fucker to rotate out of there and then back in without the cab off little lone with the cab on. Cut the friggin carrier off or tell the customers to have it removed or they can fuck off. May the force be with you! And keep us posted. -
Looks damn good, but my arteries are hardening just by looking at it. But I'd eat that fucker anyway! Bacon and more bacon, lots a cheese, onion rings all slapped on a beef patty. Damn, I think I'm gonna barbecue tomorrow and try to copy that.

It's not an intense hatred. It's a simple observation. I'm laughing about the whole topic. I guess things sound more intense than they really are. You still have to look at the fact that the Sick-0 was the direct replacement for the 7.3l. Jim will it was a stop gap engine and I will say no it wasn't. I will say that the 6.4L may have been a stop gap engine if Ford's eyes knowing that they working on their own engine to break away from Navistar. However, I don't believe the 6.4L is a stop gap engine for Navistar. And just so the rest of you know, Jim and I get into conversations ike this on an almost daily basis. But at the end of the day, we will sit down together and have a few beer with eachother. Sometimes even continue the conversation. By the way, Ford accepted the fact that they had to sue Navistar to recover severe warranty costs. And if you listen to Mike Rowe he says that if Ford wants something done right, they have to do it themselves.
-
Just one more thing to add: Ford realized and accepted the fact that Navistar really fucked up and created a huge piece of shit. This is what lead to the deterioration of the relationship between Ford and Navistar. This is also what lead to Ford deciding to build their own engine which I am positive about so far. So why can't most of us accept what Ford has accepted?
