  1. Remember the FMT training CDs? There was 2, then changed to 4, then dropped. If you completed the 2 CDs, you are grandfathered in to all requirements (no basic electrical class needed).
  2. That could be. Its a fairly nice looking truck externally. Its from out of town (way out of town), and theres some unusual circumstances going along with it (no aftermarket mods though). Its been serviced (according to the customer) at one dealership. It was purchased used though.
  3. the vehicle had a DPF replaced at 95k miles. The oasis showed no definitive reason for the replacement. Now, it has 103k miles. The DPF is completely plugged, no exhaust at all passing the filter. Oil in the CAC, in the exhaust. The high pressure turbo locked up (wont spin at all), low pressure turbo fails the bearing clearance test with a dial indicator.
  4. I knew there was a reason why I didn't like larger cities!
  5. I just drained a gallon of oil out of a CAC. Turbos are bad, DPF completely plugged up, oil all through the exhaust. 103k mileage, out of warranty.
  6. Online wsm section 418-00 (module communications network) pinpoint test v
  7. Had a 2010 explorer with the same problem. The 120 ohm "diminishing resistors" work in parallel, producing 60 ohms on each "leg" of the network. My problem ended up being a poor connection at the abs module. Apparently, this "open" made everything act like a short. Try disconnecting the abs module then running the network test to see if everything starts communicating.
  8. I figured at least that. Not sure how efficient their "mechanics" are about monitoring oil levels, just getting a head start on everything.
  9. Guy e-mailed me about 3 of 4 ambulances (military) F350s that have experienced WOT (his words)unintended. I told him I would research it. I asked him if there was any add on "Idle bumpers". I havent heard back yet, so.....I'm just looking if anyone has run into this yet?
  10. The roughest thing on that firefighter picture to draw was the trash around his feet. All of the angles and different shadows. Its in my son in laws house now. He used to be FDNY (his firehouse was 2 blocks away from the world trade center).
  11. I just got the word to do my new model training on it......oh goody!
  12. We get an extra $2 per hour for diesel warranty work, $4 for cp. We get the BG $1 per sticker and 4% on any upsell.
  13. I've often thought there was a boardroom somewhere that deals were being made. "You pay us so much money, then we wont go after modifications until our repairs go over x amount" (hell, navistar was picking up part of the tab), Now, Ford is producing their own engine, and they cant afford many repairs.
  14. I posted this in one of them in 06..... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let me set this up first. Part of being a good tech in todays world, is not only repairing damaged or defective vehicles, but also finding out what caused the defect to begin with. Melted pistons, broken components, failed gaskets, etc. From the very start of the automotive repair business, this was a part of the repair process. Components fail for a reason, over-revving causes parts to fail in a specific manner, excessive heat, the same, overboosting, the same. When these signs are present, thats when you start looking.Overboosting, you check the vanes, check the vgt solenoid (yes, there are tests for this) and check the pcm and wires. Head gaskets, depending on the type of damage, where to start the search. Now, for those of you "Just remove the controller, they'll never know", here comes the funny-ironic part. You are always wanting to find the knowledgeable, experienced techs, but for that(removing the controller) to work, you have to find someone not smart enough to see whats happened, then trust him with major motor/trans work! I dont care who you are, thats funny! __________________
  15. What kind of luck are you having with the latest 6.4 flash? Our dealership car hauler gained 2 mpg with just the flash.
  16. When the 09s were first coming out, I looked for p167f in both the 08 and the 09. At that time it was there in both. Looks like they took it away from us. THE MYSTERY DEEPENS!
  17. Its not in the pced, look at the workshop manual, at the top "master dtc charts" p167f is there.
  18. The kids were killing clunkers today, and we had the chance to test it. They advertise that it will protect your motor even with no oil in it. Put a pint in a 350 chevvy, ran it to distribute it throughout, then drained the oil. With no oil in it, the kids were doing burnouts, and it was running for a good 20 minutes with no oil. Impressive! Now, when they added the liquid glass, 1 minute exactly, it was dead.
  19. Wife will sit and listen to their stories,(one is a woman that is a survivor at Nagasaki), get them all singing, and just go that extra mile to comfort them. All just barely over minimum wage.
  20. Our dealer finally bought 2 more IDS'. We've been using one since it all started. I loaded the software onto 2 PCs and found 2 unused VCMs as a stopgap, but its a little tough when you need to monitor on the road.
  21. That would probably cover wally world and jiffy lube "techs". My wife works in a nursing home, and thats about right. Getting the old folks up after shitting themselves, cleaning them up, and trying to preserve their dignity all in one. I'd never be able to do it, but she loves helping the old folks.
  22. I too am sorry for your loss. Both of my parents passed some time back. Dad, after dealing with emphysema, lung cancer, and throat cancer. Mom, after being alone for 5 years, finally lost her battle. You're never quite ready for it. All the memories will come flooding back......enjoy all of them! Just remember, all of their teachings have made you the man you are today. I'm sure they were satisfied that they accomplished what they set out to do. Just continue to make them proud!
