Grandpa Jim do tell your story lol. Are you guys going through a bit of a staff turnover?
-
Was the lifter collapsed? Did you do a leakdown check prior to tearing it down? Possible bent rods as Dwayne says or broken rings?
-
Is there smoke coming from the stacks/pipe while he is cranking it over? Where exactly is he measuring fuel pressure from? After both filters? Have him remove a fuel gallery plug from the head and see if there is pressure and volume at the head. If there is, and all the injectors are new (I think you said they were) Tell him to take his suction line off the lift pump and try to run the engine off a clean fuel container with known good fuel. Maybe he could take fuel from a truck that is running ok. It would be a good idea to change all of the filters as well, Maybe it has a plugged filter or one that is sucking air. You have already ruled out the ICP system and the electrical part of the injectors so after the fuel system is ok back to basics. Is the exhaust or air intake plugged off? Is the engine in time? Are the valves set correctly? If the valve were stuck in the guides its possible they touched a piston and are bent causing low compression. Maybe you have been through all of this...just some things to think about maybe lol I'll make you a deal....I'll go there and fix them at my own expense if you come and fix my nightmare bus /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Like Jim says get it turning and use a good penetrating oil....I prefer the cxc-51A Ford stuff. I had one break off on me like that. I took the p/s pump off, threaded in a long screw and made a short little slide hammer out of 5/16 rod, some washers and a heavy socket. It worked for me but sounds like yours is siezed worse than mine was. Good luck

I am about to take the exhaust hose home over this one!!! Concern only happens when unit is very hot. ICP reading .4-.6v while cranking. All other Hard/No start PID readings within spec. ICP KOEO voltage .21v. IPR duty cycle goes to 85%. ICP sensor has been disconneted and it still acts up.Unit has had IPR,ICP sensor, high pressure pump, standpipes and dummy plugs replaced for this concern. Oil cooler has also been replaced based on ECT/EOT PIDS. I have "extended air checked" the unit by removing the valve covers, and high pressure pump. I made a fitting that bolts to the branch tubes and left the air on it for a couple hours. Air leaks develop on both sides under the rails. after about 45 mins, the branch tubes look fine. Is this considered normal? Rails have been removed all injectors and both rails inspected with no obvious problems. Base engine oil pressure has been checked, there is no base oil pressure while cranking(using manual guage) but there is flow when filter is removed. I have "load tested" IPR and ICP wiring as well as used a jumper harness and supplied battery voltage to IPR, unit still will not start. What am I missing here? Should I be chasing the low base oil pressure issue even if there is flow? I am thinking my next move should be swapping out all 8 injectors and both oil rails with known good ones. Any ideas?

fleet access to inford.com/buying an IDS
Aaron_Johnson replied to Aaron_Johnson's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Thanks for the info guys....I haven't been on in awhile, I don't have internet up in Ft Mac yet. We are going to order an IDS, but are there any differences between the "fleet" version and dealer versions of the IDS software? Are there any features or tests missing? Can you reflash and do programmable module instalations with the "fleet" version? Thanks again -
Axle Leak
Aaron_Johnson replied to Keith Browning's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
It should be a Mertitor axle....They do the same thing in all of the trucks. Freightliner had a bulliten on those axles in thier trucks I believe. Try arvinmeritor.com they used to have bullitens on there -
A look at how dangerous our jobs are
Aaron_Johnson replied to Tony302600's topic in The Water Cooler
We refused to change 19.5 without having a cage to inflate them in. They were too cheap to buy the cage, so we sublet them now. Good for you for using the 10ft hose. Not a lot of guys up here use that. I think we have to take safety into our own hands and look out for #1. -
You mean there is time away from work? lol When I do get time away, I play guitar, am on a race team, and go out on my quad. I am also into computers and especially facecrack latley. Luckily all my hobbies can include the abuse of Alexander Keiths as well...well maybe not so much the quad.

Jim I wish mine was going better....but it's not....On a side note I gave my notice today, not sure where I am going yet but it's not here anymore lol. I have an 06 E-450 that won't rev up with an intermittant short to v-ref. Have tried everything:unplugging sensors, known good parts, pieces and even a pcm. Been through the wiring with a fine tooth comb and still can't find it....Tech hl wants me to put a complete harness in...oh joy!

Avg Normal pay for head gaskets
Aaron_Johnson replied to Tony302600's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
The other way you can go is to contact tech hotline and give them the story that the unit needs egr and oil coolers. They will tell you to replace them and retest then do the head gaskets if required, then you get paid to tear it apart twice but actually do it once. Just make sure your warranty clerk codes it as MT in front of the egr/oil cooler labor ops, that way the system doesnt call it overlap. -
Avg Normal pay for head gaskets
Aaron_Johnson replied to Tony302600's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I charge the slts time for the head gaskets, .2 for the egr cooler and claim MT time for "diag" as per the coolant degass bottle overflow TSB. That way I don't loose any time on them. Usually 20-25 hr range. I do them without removing the cab, and as per the workshop manual. Im sure there are "supertechs" out there that can do em much faster though -
Usually it ends up bieng the dipstick tube oring bieng cut or rolled over. There is an ssm on it I believe

Steering box failures
Aaron_Johnson replied to Aaron_Johnson's topic in Body, Chassis and Electrical
Back home we used to do sector shaft seal kits all the time. I have yet to see anyone here in the west do one. They are available though, we had a couple kicked back because the tech replaced the boxes instead of just the seal. -
Steering box failures
Aaron_Johnson replied to Aaron_Johnson's topic in Body, Chassis and Electrical
Id argue with you Jim. but you're not wrong with all of that....and I don't think it would do me any good lol I was just curious to see if our friends down south had any of these failing in "normal" operating conditions. I'll have to tell focusboy and make sure he gets into them for sure. -
Steering box failures
Aaron_Johnson replied to Aaron_Johnson's topic in Body, Chassis and Electrical
Well he came down and went through all these boxes with the foreman and from what I observed he doesn't know s$*# from peanut butter as he kept calling the input shaft the sector shaft. He said that there was a lock pin that keeps the nut on the input shaft from backing off which was what happened on this box with low mileage. How could that be caused by impact dammage? These trucks were patch/ft mac trucks, but 2 for sure wern't. One was in newfoundland, and one was a truck that just got rigged up with a deck and hadn't even made it on site yet, had 3000kms i believe. In my opinion they shouldn't sell these as off road 4x4 trucks if they can't be used for that. You don't see gm or dodge trucks with steering boxes locking up going down the road and they use those trucks in the patch and ft mac. -
Steering box failures
Aaron_Johnson replied to Aaron_Johnson's topic in Body, Chassis and Electrical
Are you guys replacing them under warranty? Our DOM (im pretty sure grandpa jim knows him) refuses to cover them. He says the box failures are due to impact dammage even though I'll be damned if I can find any evidence. He also told me that the "lock pin" on the input shaft was broken due to impact dammage.....funny but I can't find this pin he is talking about. -
Has anyone else seen any steering box failures on 06-07 f250-550 trucks? I have 2 fleets with a few failures as well as some customer units I know about. The boxes either lock up and won't turn, or break the gear inside.

I have yet to see one of these bend a rod. Even back in the day with the 7.3 when changing an injector they told me you could bend a rod when changing an injector. If a hole filled up with fuel, oil or coolant when driving down the road I could see it bending one, but I wouldnt think the starter would have enough power. When we get them locked up because of coolant, all I do is bar the engine over backwards 2 times, then no need to pull the glow plugs.

As summer draws to a close...
Aaron_Johnson replied to Alex Bruene's topic in Body, Chassis and Electrical
LOL didn't even make it off the lot. We do tons of econoline compressors. Usually for no starts or blowing the belt off, but like you said they wern't complaining of lack of a/c -
Whah! F450 only does 80 MPH!
Aaron_Johnson replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
You are right about one thing...race car drivers do know everything....I am on a race team and can verify that lol It's never the driver....it's always the car.. My whole argument is why do they need to go faster than 80? Especially with all that weight on. Sure they can get it rolling, but it won't stop any quicker. I call these morons "super truckers" -
LOL I wish it was that way here in the city Dwayne. We wouldn't want to piss off any customers...or so I am told. Starting with the sales dept telling customers that is a great idea...too bad I can't get anyone onside with that either.

Well most of the booms and pickers sold around here are electric over hydraulic, so they should still move if the truck doesn't start, just hook up a battery charger. Id just stand it straight up or swing it bacwards and out the door. If it is pto driven then you are kinda hooped.
