At some point you have to look at your W-2 and say..."that ain't too bad"...how you got it can/should be irelevant? Would "you" like doing flushes and brakes all day long and lot learning anything? As long as the numbers work out to pay your expenses I guess it doesn't matter? I had to take 2 years off to get my head straight on this. I'm doing an interiew tomorrow to get back in the dealership. It's going to be tough physically & mentally but I have to do it. I WANT to do it. There is definitely a satisfaction in fixing vehicles at the dealer level that you can't get anywhere else IMO! Sorry for the hyjack... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

How did you block the oil feed? Looks like I'm about to jump back in the dealership...interview Monday! -
Slight hyjack. According to the C-F converters, under feezing, it's the same temp? -41C = -40.5F? Doesn't make sense to me? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_crazy.gif

Just curious how you get paid for this stuff?

Quote: short block put us over cost cap and we are high already got to do it the cheap way got to love it.[/quote] The comment about being "high" on the 126 isn't HIS problem. IF he fixes this thing and it comes back in 4 months knocking guess who will be fixing it for FREE!!! Can guarantee you the SM will be fuzzy on the details about why you didn't do it RIGHT the first time. The SM WILL make you the scapegoat...if HE wants to keep HIS job. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hitthefan.gif

OK...if a roller lifter came apart the oil pump likely has damage or debris in the relief valve?
-
This is probably a dumb question but does the short block come with the front cover on it?

This stuff wil drive you nuts IF you let it. You didn't break it. Figure out a way to put it out on the lot and let er' sit...some customers CAN"T be made happy. YOU need to make a living so it has to go OUT. Make the conversation happen between the SA/SM & customer. It really isn't YOUR problem IMO.

Jim? I think we may be twins separated at birth...only difference is I finally couldn't take the stress anymore. Been pretty frustrated lately that I quit back in 05 as that seems to be when the dealers found they had to increase the pay rate here in the USA to keep a decent tech... I re-play my conversation with the SM in my head...went in and told him I didn't want a raise just wanted OUT! If I had approached it with less emotion might have gotten what I really needed. At the time the PD'S/IDS deal was just about to come over the horizon. I wanted to go get it...get a jump-start on the learning curve as that is always to your advantage. Problem was the shop wouldn't buy any tools. Still hadn't even thought about it much...the whole thing just became such an uphill battle and I, well, broke. Quit and went home and started selling stuff...you probably know where this was/could have been headed. Fortunately a guy on one of my MC boards offered me a free place to live while I got my head straight. Been here 2 years doing mostly nothing but prep his dirtbike...he has a bunch of older heavy equipment that requires an incredible amount of time just trying to find parts. About drives me nuts not being able to just walk up to a parts counter and ask for a part. The biggest problem is the electrical side of things. Wiring is cooked/ripped/missing and I'm too blind now to see things, plus my back isn't great, so makes it really tough to get to this stuff to do anything. I REALLY miss the dealership. I'm 50 with a 70 year old back and failing eyesight...unfortuately not great at blowing smoke op someones ass either...brutally honest is what I call it. When you go to an interview they want you to present yourself as Superman IMO. The more you brag the better they like you...I have NEVER met one of these SuperTech asswipes that could carry my jockstrap when it came down to FIRFT. Lots of bravado and hype about how many hours they could turn but LOTS of comebacks... Blah, blah, blah...

I checked in with them last week and the Ranger was gone so asked what they found. They replaced the injectors with the correct ones and it ran fine.

Want to try that again? EOT, EOT, EOT?

Just upgraded to the fastest DSL Bellsouth/AT&T offers. It really isn't all that noticable except when downloading somne things it's a bit faster...

You are correct as usual...I was so tickled to see something familiar I jumped the gun and short-circuited! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

The sticky injectors are what killed the IDM. Tell him that and maybe he'll reconsider.

Jim...you need to put your glasses on... The last good shop I worked in the good SM got stupid and was fired. The new guy posted the 126 on the bulletin board that surrounded the time clock. Lots of red ink notes on it for us to see every day...he & the GM discourged ANY computer use, this was back in summer of 03 when the 6.0L was just starting to show itself, as they felt time on the computer was "wasted time"... I wish you all luck with this crap...I just don't have the heart to fight to be able to do what is right. It's a constant fight with parts & management to do OUR jobs... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hitthefan.gif

02 f-450 starts then stalls
ktmlew replied to kevin phillips's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Last 7.3L I worked on had exact same symptom and oil pump fixed it. No worries! You wouldn't happen to be from WV originally? -
This is why I bailed out of the Ford business a couple of years ago. Could see this coming a mile away! The 6.0L cut 10-12hrs off my weekly paycheck and that was before they started spewing coolant or filling the de-gas bottle with oil. I said at the time they would have to extend the warranty as no one could afford to fix these at 100% customer pay rate...

The shop I started doing diesel at had a guy that had been working in the same bay for more than 30 years. He played that "I know nuthin" deal too...but don't you believe it! He was dumb like a fox...figured-out that the less diag you had to do the more "work' you got out the door. With "work" being flushes & brake jobs...
