Im glad Gale doesn't want to hurt the environment but by using a custom tune say through an SCT dealer and shutting off the EGR alone will actually help with all the Valve problems ford has with them gettin coked up with soot from extended idling so and so forth. That is the one advantage banks has is the plug and play but I am not a fan personally of just a off the shelf tuner. I want something made specifically for my truck and have everything monitored but thats just me /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif A plug and play tuner last i knew could not change for custom injectors? Am I wrong? What about for a custom VGT? Theres alot more involved in this whole game and I have by no means the r and d capabilites banks does nor do the people I work with. The only way we r and d is by using it. Either it works or it doesn't plain and simple /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Eliminating the egr cooler shouldn't throw a code. And custom tuning for the 6.0 is the best thing for it. I see you work at banks which is fine but I like how you put in the no smoke comment. Im pretty sure all the trucks putting down over 1000 hp mainly pulling trucks smoke but the power is there right? Shutting the egr valve off lowers egts without removing the cooler. Does your banks 6 gun do that? Not tryin to go after ya but comments like that erk me the wrong way.

I understand that Jim... There was a muscle car era which you are talking about and the last few years have been the diesel truck era and the government is putting a stop to diesels as it did muscle cars. I still love watchin an 8k pound truck make an 11 to 12 second pass in the quarter mile but im gettin the itch to build a mustang for faster times than that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif.. so all in all down in the states yea we need to watch out for the environment but the EPA is a blood sucking tick sucking the life out of our country/industrial economy and it is all about money and thats it /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif

Heres the after product Larry http://www.socaps.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/3972 and Alex thats part of it blocking off the exhaust side of things but this is what you call totally removing it haha. This truck is a drag truck Jim like I said rarely on the street for a cruise mostly trailered from what I understand have talked to the guy many times about the truck and what to do with this that and the other thing. Emissions aren't a bad thing but I am young and not a fan but hey its the way things are going so I guess I will just have to build an "off road use only" diesel pickup to have fun with and an emissions truck to get me to and from work and wherever else /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif.

Seen pics of a custom egr cooler bypass done a 6.0 drag truck called stroked lighting outta Cali. Guy is a master fabricator did a little cutting and a little welding and tied everything in the way it should be with the cooler there and it hasn't gone ka boom yet. This truck is also driven on the street not just the track but not a daily driver by any means.

Well Jim you were right... the top of the engine was dry. Pulled trans clutch and flywheel and found a small hole where the oil was coming from through the new rtv that was laid. So cut some of the rtv out and put new in took a brass punch and knocked it up a little bit to seal it up. Put it back together test drove re checked all ok. All in all still sucked but a lesson learned for sure

Well thanks for the help fellas. The truck came in to have the oil pan replaced per customer request. Rusted through and they couldn't solder it anymore so we replaced it. Had oil all over. Got it back in all cleaned up drove it and and had a leak. Cleaned it up again and let it sit. No leak take it out and drive it and it leaks. Gonna pull trans tomorrow and take a gander at the rear main. In between all this had to put a new radiator in a 6.4 and then an injector in a 6.0 and man I was never so happy to see a 6.0 haha. Thanks again guys I'll keep truckin and learn and get better and faster(so I'll quit gettin razed but thats part of the territory I know) /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rockon.gif

I know you guys were tryin to drag me down and I understand that and sorry if it made it look like that was the case. I wish I worked with guys like you that are willing to teach and answer questions good bad or otherwise. I have a tendancy to ask alot of questions because I like to know how things work and try to gain knowledge from that. Right now I am havin a serious gut check because I went from one of those gravy jobs building the trucks in the factory makin decent money and decieded I didn't want to be stuck there for the rest of my life to now having to maybe pull an engine a second time to fix an oil leak for the second time so right now I am down in the dumps just trying to get out some way some how on a positive note with all of it /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif

Wow after reading this it has me wondering if I am worthy enough to be in this business. I don't have all the experience in the world actually only about a year in the shop but man I am wondering what you guys would think of me if Im in the high Im an idiot category? I don't think I am but if I worked under Jim or Keith I am beginning to wonder. I was an apprentice the first time but I apprenticed under the wrong guy in the shop. Hes one of those that loves havin his masters certifications but doesn't wanna do anything but diag the vehicle and when it he looks at it it will fix itself. And don't even get me started with the SM its crazyness.. there ya go keith heres a young member feeling dumb haha but yet starting to see the light /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/notworthy.gif

Shame on the last dealer that touched this truck
CLR95 replied to Tony302600's topic in The Water Cooler
Keith at least you have a manager that comfronts the problem right away rather than turnin his eye away from it. And thats not really with the broken stuff its with the half ass work and he wonders why we don't have as much business as we could ha. Speakin of i am in the middle of puttin a 7.3 back together after pullin it to change the oil pan and am takin a beatin time wise but i wanna make sure its done right the first time and this is only the second one i have pulled so maybe next time it'll be faster /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif. -
Well I hope they figure something out soon because GM is on track to have the 4.5 iszuzu I believe in the half tons here in the next couple of years according to my dad who works at one of the half ton truck plants. One more motor we will all have to learn haha the wonderful life of being a diesel technician

Got an excursion racked right now which got new tires, diesel oil change, cam sensor recall which the old one broke and burnt my .3 in a hurry and needs new front brakes and before that had a 7.3 with a bad injector waiting for approval finally got it done and before that to start my day had a 6.4 with a cel for a eot out of range and a radio problem customer waiting might I add. I was not happy but took care of it as best I could and finished the first two and hope to have the excursion rolling in the morning and off to more crap work that no one else wants

Well thanks for the welcome fellas. I am trying to be that successful technician that people want to bring there vehicle too. Actually learned a hard lesson last week had two trucks sittin in the shop for about a week working between the two both 7.3's and was trying to follow pc/ed and just gettin drilled. It sucked but had another truck with a similiar symptom as one and thought it through before doing anything and got it right so it made the hard lesson valueable. I do try to take pride in my work. To be honest I have worked in a gm truck assembly plant before going back to turning wrenches. Management hated me because of my quality ethics. They want trucks out the door and don't care how it happens. I have taken this mentallity to the dealership. Thanks to all for the words of wisedom. I am trying to work with the electrical as it is not my strong suit by far but I know I need to be good at it. Im only 24 but trying to get ahead of the game while I can. I will try and learn everything from our lead tech but he is almost like a robot and is on cruise control when it comes to 6.0's with as many as he has seen. So usually I drill him with questions and try to understand the process and then go from there still on a big learning curve and tryin to take in as much as possible. Another reason why I joined this site because of fellow technicians that seem to have pride in their jobs and are willing to help the wet behind the ears kid that is eager to learn and maybe help as well although it looks like most have been in the game long enough to see it all. As for my friends most don't work on vehicles for a living some are farm kids that work on their own stuff and call me for help when they don't understand and others are just heres and theres. I don't know if I will stick with the dealership forever would like to venture on my own one day but until then want to get all the experience possible. Our lead tech has worked there over twenty years and hasn't seen a raise in over 3 years so if thats the case I won't stick around any longer than I have too knowing I can go elsewhere and make more money and do the same work. Sorry for hijacking this thread just thought I would respond here after reading about the dealership mentioned doing the work.

Im young(24) and most of my friends blow me smoke for working a dealership and how they don't do anything right. I am still learning myself hoping to be 6.0 certified by the end of the year if not the start of next but I have helped our lead tech work on some stuff and he is a master of taking it apart and puttin it back together and doing it right. I truely idol this guy and what he does and his knowledge of the engine. And speaking of Badger Ford, I had a buddies client who he hauls horses for come into our shop on his way to lexington ky from wisconsin with 7 horses on a trailer and no power. Had 3 grand worth of stuff done on a 7.3 for low power and said his low power happened almost the same place everytime he went south. Happened twice within 10 miles of each other. They put a fuel pump on new tank and a bunch of other crap. Brought it in dropped the tank and found 3 shop rags layin in the botton of the tank and pieces in the filters of the pickup unit. Now what kinda work is that? I love my job and want to know everything there is about diesels and have satisfied customers and to me that is just poor worksmanship. Take pride in what you do. Let that customer have faith and know they can bring their truck in for any repair and know that it is done right. Sorry I'm off my soap box now but this is why dealers get a bad rep for poor quality.
