Yes you are! -
Thanks!

Dunno. I'd say production change, but I don't know why...

Lincoln Continential 4.6 Miss?? Shudder?? Jerk?
Bruce Amacker replied to skidoo700's topic in All Gasoline Engines
Does it have Power Balance? I thought that was just CAN vehicles and this should be SCP, right? This is crazy- asking a bunch of diesel guys for help on a gasser! Spark plug? What's that? -

Mode 6 won't show anything until it meets the preconditions and runs the monitor, so if anyone cleared codes or unhooked the battery M6 will be empty for a while. If it won't complete the misfire monitor make sure CKP profile is learned. (I think it has to run CKP correction, 3 decels 60-40, to enable misfire monitor. It reads in datalogger whether it's met the crank learn or not under PID MP_LRN) If the gas gauge is broken it won't run MM, either. If it won't complete the misfire monitor I'd unplug stuff and verify the PCM will set codes. Can you get it to miss by power braking it in the shop? If so, have your assistant PB it and feed it some propane or ether to fatten it up and see if it's a lean misfire. This is quite common due to clogged injectors or funky MAF (I know, I know, but stranger things have happened.) What are STFT and LTFT for each bank? There may be some clues there. A running compression test may show broken valve spring(s). Scoping the O2s would show which side(s) the miss is on, if you're set up for scoping. Disable the EGR and RT it to make sure one cylinder isn't getting too much EGR. (Which I'm not sure can happen on this engine. I remember the ports clogging in the intake horn, though). My guess would be ignition or lean miss. A long shot is a partially clogged cat. (BTDTGTTS) Good Luck! -

We have a new channel on our cable TV platform called mchan..... -
OK, I'm stumped. I ran a VIN through the parts guy asking for a price on a tank. It came back as being equipped from the factory with a "temporary disposable fuel tank". The truck is an '04 F550 wrecker and obviously has an aftermarket tank (small, only 15 gal or so) that fits with the wrecker body. What's the temp tank? A plastic bag with a straw?

You guys might enjoy some of these pictures: What the hell this is, besides a Mad Max replica, I can't answer, but it's based on a Ford truck chassis. He looked right out of Hollywood driving with a black helmet on and a death grip on the wheel. Does it qualify as a Ford? I'd like to see his title and insurance papers......

So come on down tomorrow and make a day trip out of it, I'd like to meet you! The weather's supposed to be hot and clear, perfect for a car show. The manufacturers (usually!) set up big exhibits with concept cars, there's free bands playing on stages in the open, a true carnival atmosphere! Even the Navy got involved a couple of years ago with an A-10 Warthog coming down for a low flyover and full throttle vertical climb over Woodward that drowned out ALL noise for 30 seconds or so. There's more weird cars on Woodward tomorrow than you'd ever dream- 40,000 classic cars and 1.7 million people were forecast last year. I tried counting them but....... -
Perhaps I should refresh my info on Excursions because I almost never see them, just F's and E's. I didn't intend to come across cocky, Greg. Have a great weekend!

No, this year we're bringing my brother-in-law's '67 Vette. We took mine the last couple of years. It's just as nice, or nicer, than mine- high option car, original (nice!) paint, bolt-ons, sunburst yellow coupe. I'll have my cell which forwards from my business line, 440-846-3885 if you want to hook up. We're staying at the Embassy Suites in Troy tonight, so we'll be there this evening on the strip, too. Is 75 still closed? Here's a shot from WWDC last year- we drove the Vette, and I ended up buying the Ghia, which is body-off restored and beautiful! I've always liked old VW's and had a bunch when I was a kid. The weather's supposed to be great, I'm looking forward to it. -
You're obviously referring to a 7.3 'cause it's got a GP relay, right? The PCM doesn't care about (or monitor) GP operation on 7.3's unless they're Gen 2 Cal emissions or 1-2 years of Expeditions, which have the same GPM as the 6.0. Older 7.3 Cal emissions (Generation 1) have a glow plug "shunt" that watches glow plug amperage and rats to the PCM when it's low. If the "money light" came on when the relay was bad, every frigging money light would be on between NYC and LA. Boy, did we make MONEY on those bastards....

Sorry for the crappy quality- I did not have a scanner handy and shot it with my camera- obviously. Thanks for putting it up, Master!

40PSI won't cause a stalling or low power issue. Those engines pull well even with FP in the 20's or teens. I've driven them with FP in the single digits or zero and could not tell a huge difference. Could the junk be fuel tank lining? -
very poor fuel mileage

Tell him to run it a bit, or let you drive it for a few days. Maybe he had a headwind, which will KILL your MPG. -
Keith: I sent you the PDF- it's too large for me to load.

01 E450 (looking at buying)
Bruce Amacker replied to BLittle500's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
A lot of common sense would apply here looking the truck over. I'd pay particular attention to the turbo compressor impeller and air cleaner ducting, to verify that they have not seen any dirt. These are not easy to inspect on an E-van but worth the trouble. The fuel drain cable is commonly screwed up, so try to get a sample from it. A compression test would be nice, but is out of the question on an E-van. IPR command should be 9-11% and MFDES should be between 8-12mg at a hot idle. If MFDES approaches 16 at a hot idle the fuel command is high, meaning the injectors are worn, fuel pressure is low, or the engine is worn. An oil analysis would be a great idea and can be done quickly at a Cat dealer, or slowly from Napa/Wix under PN 4077. Good Luck! -

"I'm told" but I have not done this myself: >Uninstall the current WDS (what's that, right?) version from the WDS >Locate an old WDS disc from the pre-06E17 days >Load this onto the WDS >Program the PCM using as-built data, because it won't recognize the installed calibration >Then update the program using the WDS There's a lot of programming gurus on this forum, and I'm sure there are some holes in this info, which is a couple of years old. Let me know if this is possible. Good Luck! -
I've got it in PDF, and I think Keith does, too. We'll figger out how to get it up....

Another add-on: If you don't mind using aftermarket suppliers, Luk clutches makes some top quality stuff at very reasonable prices. We were a beta test station for them and installed flat flywheel conversions in the 90's YEARS before they hit the street. Luk has an engineering dept. about 2 miles down the street from my shop where the tech support phone calls got answered. Really great stuff, and reasonable- I'd bet it's $500 less than FMC for the clutch/flywheel kit! PS Their website and catalog have a lot of GREAT tech tips. Good Luck!

The pulsing is normal, remove your hose and swing it around to get all of the fluid out of it. It needs to be filled with air to dampen the pulsations. I'd hang a known good CMP for S&G and check the harness very well for rubs. Wiggle and tug on everything and see if it quits. Intermittents are the worst..... -
I've sent more guys to Urgicare for stitches than I can count. One memorable incident is where one of my best guys was on a ladder and backed down the ladder, carefully and slowly, hooking his ass on the little "table" thing on the bench grinder. (The little square doodad where you rest your chisel while sharpening it). It ripped his ass open like I've never seen before and the local hospital referred us to a plastic surgeon who charged me over $1000 to clean the would and put in ONE stitch. I did/do have BWC, but I'm a fanatic about having a clean record and never claim stuff on my insurances or BWC. I painted a big mean Halloween face on the bench grinder after that, which is still there to this day....

From my notes (which are old): Replacement DMF flywheels are not available and have been updated to a flat flywheel. (SSM) Make sure you order 10 flywheel bolts for a late ’04 because the SSM doesn’t mention this! Dual mass flywheel 3C3Z-6477-AA is replaced by:3C3Z-6375-BA, 3C3Z-6379-CA along with the newer style clutch.

I'm assuming it has the 06E17, which has its share of MPG complaints. I'd do a basic performance analysis looking hard at the VGT and FP check, and I'd be looking for a restricted cat. Maybe monitor EBP_G (I think it still works, even with the flash) or backprobe the EBP physically (I know it's still powered up, just ignored), or put a physical gauge in the pipe in a tapped hole forward of the cat. You can flash it to an older level to eliminate the 06E17, but it's a HUGE time wasting PIA and probably not legal, either. IMHO, most economy complaints are driver related. Go for a cruise with the IDS "econometer" open and see what it reads. If the bonehead pulls a bigass heavy boat going 75MPH, he's gonna get 5MPG. Good Luck!
