  1. I actually owned one of these beasts. THe one I got had been sitting for awhile to. after I got the glow plugs and the choke working it fired right up. there not the fastes truck but the look on peoples faces when the ask whats wrong with your ranger and you tell them its a diesel. I don't have it anymore because the body was falling off. but it was fun to have.
  2. I Believe the hubs are the same I could be wrong but from memory I think they are the same. We get gears from a local speed shop but i've heard some people like the summit gears.???
  3. I don't know how many of you do remote starts but I had a taurus today that didn't have all the ignition wires hooked up and it was setting a code for low resistance in the fuel sender. the wire that wasn't hooked up was for the fuel gauge and other warning lights. so when remote started. The fuel gauge wasn't being energized so after a few starts with the remote start it would turn the light on.
  4. Thanks jeff my nickname has been bert for awhile. So the avatar is very fitting.
  5. I relized it was in your ssm you posted after I already wrote that. Sorry!
  6. i've had mine for over a year now I love it sure beats standing, slipping, then falling of a milk crate
  7. Biggest thing i've found is a cracked pcv hose at the back of the intake. I've only done i think one fuel pump
  8. the only problem with the tool it only works if no porclin was left behind. I found using a long punch you can actually chip away at the porclain and blow it out. But don't hammer on it to hard or you'll knock the porclin down in the head. I learned that real quick.
  9. We actually seen one about a year ago it didn't entirly hydrolock but when the tech next to me got all done. it had a knocking noise. bent rod. I alway check powerbalance if it comes in running. then I do a fuel test if it doesn't hold pressure I replace those injectors on the cylnders that were missing. I found that it helps if you blow out the fuel in the intake when you take the injector out
  10. I don't know were I actually read this but it is a common thing. I believe it was if you drive them 10-20 miles it would "relearn" were the idle should be. The first one that did it to me I almost crashed to brand new vehicles
  11. Im only 27 and I think if you asked other people in our shop to do points and condesor they would look at you like a deer in the head lights. But then again I love old cars
  12. I'm with all you guys. our manager was against taking bodies off. until I finally just did one and he seen how easy it was. He hasn't complained since. This from the man who got mad I took a little old ranger box off to do a fuel pump!
  13. Nice pic keith. You all are correct I'm glad I have found this site full of people willing to help others and take the time to take pride in the vehicles they work on. I used to rush everything I did. then something change and I do everything right like I should. Wouldn't you know I actually make more money taking my time then working on comebacks.
  14. Been working for the same dealer for almost 13years now started by washing cars!!!!!!!!!
  15. Had a customer complaining about only getting 6-8mpg. After the truck got about 2-3000 miles on it the milage went up but is still only 9-10mpg.
  16. I also had one in the shop the other day that would about knock you out if the doors to the shop weren't open. Anybody have an idea??
  17. Does anybody know or have found out what is causing that smell. I about died in our shop last time one was in
  18. Thanks for sharing. I havn't had to do much other than radiators in 6.4 so far. but people like you just sharring info like this helps everybody out. thanks again
  19. Seen a guy with a 7.3 that was running away. stuck a telephone book. one of the 1 foot thick ones and it just sucked it page by page into the intake. not funny to the customer that was standing right there. but was a site to see.
  20. I had one that only had a max of 200psi on one whole bank. The block ended up being warped. If I cranked it over till a piston was halfway down the bore you could actually see the rings on the pistons and could move the piston around in the bore. I assume if yours was like this you would have noticed.
  21. Can you use this kit at the dealership yet. I know you couldn't for warranty but what about costumer pay anybody know????
  22. Sorry I forgot to add I already replced the line between the selector valve and the mechnical pump on the engine. and already bypassed the water seperator. I was kind of thinking it was the tank selector valve but 120 bucks for a 500 dollar plow truck I didn't want to just try it
  23. I have a 86 6.9L it runs great. but after it sits for 4hrs you either have to use ether(not good), or crank for ever. The glow plug system is good. I know it is a fuel issue. it has duel tanks anybody know were I could start. Has new pressure line all new orings on the caps and new return hoses on the caps
