  1. Took the turbo apart today i thought it was way beyond servicing but my manager said do the best ya can so i got it back together and back on the truck and its still doing the same thing. P132b overboost and popping through the intake with puffs of black smoke everytime it does. VGTDC is around 85 at idle and only goes down to about 60 when you get on it but i can command it to 0 using output state control?????? also i was looking at the MAF it looks like a rough signal. Are they supposed to look like that???I called hotline and they said check the O-ring that is used on the tube from the intake to the left side valve cover to make sure i dont have air getting in past MAF causing this overboost he said if im still having the same problem get a new turbo any thoughts or advise would be very apreciated Thanks!!!
  2. OK... im still green so bare with me, make a long story short i just put an engine in an 03 f250 for base engine problems.I got a brand new short block one head and used the other good head off the old engine. I just finished it today idled fine, reved right up, but when i went to take it for a ride everytime i would get on it it would sputter and make a crazy noise coming from the intake i think its called turbo surge. So i brought it back to the dealer popped the hood scratched my head and was going to hook up ids but it was closing time and the tool room was already locked. So i said fuck it lets give it one more shot took a couple practice laps around the parking lot and it seemed better. This is where it gets bad, I decided to take it for another ride and as soon as i pulled out into the main street i just hammered on it thought maybe the vanes were coked up and sticking got to like 4 grand and BOOM! I sware to god this old lady shit her pants that was walking down the sidewalk, pretty funny but anyway pulled over and it blew the right side rubber cac apart and the clamp is just gone have no idea where the hell that thing went. any ideas? This is the first one i ever had blow off on me so any input would be helpful... thanks
  3. anyone have troubles with this web based course? When under 6.0 features ,then click component locations , it says scroll over to get location then click to learn about it.I click nothing happens anyone else have this problem????
  4. well thanks for all the input guys i got another one that i have to do an engine in the wsm says to just pull the front clip but screw that im lifting the cab!
  5. Doing my fist head gasket job and i heard pulling the cab makes life way easier and its quicker. Is this true?
  6. Im just a little confused, when did they start using inferred ep and when did they go back to using the actual?
  7. well finally got to work on this thing again had other higher priority trucks to do you guys know how that goes so i did the compression test and cylinder 6 was way down so i guess im going to pull the head. Some questions, can you leave the exhaust manifold on when pulling the head? whats the fastest way to do it? Im shure some of you guys have done head gaskets a million times. Also have there been any issues with rocker arms on these engines or anything like that? any help always appreciated
  8. it looks good straight across when you get to 6 it just drops way off blue smoke has me worried
  9. Had a truck brought in from another dealer today with p132b p0278 and blue smoke. The other dealer replaced cylinder 6 injector and the turbo feed pipes that come from the exhaust manifolds to the turbo. P132b was for an underboost condition which i think is caused by the turbo inlet where the clamp goes has a huge leak. But the p0278 for cylinder 6 had me scratchin my head alil so did power balance and cylinder 6 was way down -55 and cylinder 8 was at -20. so i then did relative compresion and cylinder 6 was at 8% diffrence and cylinder 8 was at 14% diffrence. Ran out of time today but tommarow when i get in im gonna do a real compresion test with gauge. I guess my question is should i be leaning more towards head or cylinders.Truck has 59,000 and puffs blue smoke like a chimney.i think cylinders 6 and 8 are part of the same bank being the left.Any help would be appreciated! signed diesel amatuer
  10. cool ill right that down in my little book but what gets restricted in the oil cooler the oil or the coolant and how?

  12. Hey new to the site and forums and working on diesels in general. My question is i've seen a lot of guys making there own diag stuff for 6.0 liters. just wandering if anyone has info on these tools or what they used to make them. ex. adaptor to test HPOS for leaks
  13. coool thanks for all of your help guys
  14. hey forgot to mention that i checked the egr valve wasnt that coked but everything was wet just out of curiousity would there be oil in exhaust for a blown head gasket? is there oil gallies that run up through the head from the block that could leak into the cylinder? never had one completly torn down thanks
  15. thanks guys ill look up that tsb and pressure check the egr cooler also i forgot to mention the truck only has 12000 miles on it
  16. Hey guys newbie here, and new in general.Just finished up Asset program a little while ago.Since no one in my shop likes or wants to work on diesels i am the new diesel guy.I got one in today an f-450 conversion. It was blowing white smoke had no coolant in the jug and when i pulled it up in front of my bay it died. Went to try and fire it up and it cranked then sounded like it started to hydro lock so i stopped. I looked under the vehicle and oil was coming out of the little condensation oil in the muffler. It left a decent sized puddle. The next thing i did was check the oil and the dipstick was dry. My guess is head gaskets but found no signs around the heads externally. Any help would be appreciated..... Glad to be part of the site!
