  1. I was reading back through some older posts and ran across you saying about checking for over full oil, that was one of the first things I checked and it was OK.
  2. IPR is hanging around 26%, and Load is 33% I dont know squat about transmissions, apparently not much more about 6.0's either, so I ran it past our transmission guy, he's thinking along the lines of a T/C as well. Thanks again, Brandon
  3. When power braking this truck it doesnt do squat. It just sits there and SLOWLY brings the RPM's up to only about 1250RPM, it doesnt even try to jerk the truck around. But the truck seems to rev fine out of gear, maybe leading to a trans concern like you said?
  4. Hey guys, got a truck in from another shop that they couldn't figure out. I had a little time to look at it yesterday but no work today with all of this snow. It's an '04 late build, automatic, no power up off the line, but runs ok once you get it up and moving. Last shop put on: Ford Reman Turbo, "known good" IPR Valve, New VGT solenoid, and an EGR Delete kit just for good measure. I checked codes first, just EGR flow codes (due to the delete). I then checked for good fuel, ok. Fuel pressure stays steady at 50 PSI. It had a new lube sticker on it but I pulled the oil filter anyway, it was a NAPA filter jammed under a ford cap, the filter was clogged all to high hell. Replaced the filter, oil looked clean (who forgot the filter?). Truck passed a boost test and a VVT Test (did this before I found out that the other shop just threw that turbo on). Checked for exhaust restriction per the WSM, came up with 30psi @ 3800RPM and max spec is 35psi. ICPV checks out per Bruce's specs. Checked air filter for intake restriction, new filter in it and not packed with snow or anything. I did notice that there was some slime coming up the breather tube, and some down in the valve cover, it just looks like condensation. I ran a crank case pressure test, it was well below the max spec. Power balance looks good, injectors all drop out nice and even. Relative compression looked good. I'm at a loss here guys, where else should I check? Thanks again, Brandon
  5. I'm going to say paper towel. I've seen leftovers from a paper towel in a 6.0 rad, thermostat, heater core....everything, that was our last diesel tech's last job, and I guess that was his going away present to me. As to how it got there, somewhere in assembly, someone put down a paper towel and never picked it up.
  6. Im heading to class the end of Feb, forget the dates, 20something
  7. Thanks! They're changing stuff in the office and the techs are just now getting involved in the paperwork end of things..... Thanks again, Brandon
  8. Hey guys, trying to find the labor ops for doing a branch tube in an 06 6.0, and also the labor op for the air pressure test on a 6.0. Thanks guys, Brandon
  9. Got the van running today, Thanks guys! Just one thing I noticed, the O-rings on the old injectors looked like they were beat to shit, but the copper was okay. Is that normal for 7.3's? This thing has like 275,000 miles on it.
  10. Thanks guys! Getting ready to tear into it now. I remembered the old diesel tech always pulling the glow plugs and pumping the oil out, but I've already got it draining by the book, maybe I'll just double check. Thanks again, Brandon
  11. Hey guys, I've never put injectors in a 7.3 yet, let alone a van. I have the valve cover off already after doing testing. I'm replacing the right bank of injectors (per customer), and flipping through the manual I'm supposed to pull the left motor mount like doing 6.0, is that needed? Also, I cant seem to find the 7.3 injector removal tool, any tips on how to get these things out of here? Thanks again guys, Brandon
  12. I'm sure some of us will make them, might as well laugh about it, and hopefully learn from it. Doing a 6.0 rear engine cover, I got the trans and everything bolted back up, went to grab the cross member and there laid the spacer that goes in between the crank and the flex plate. Dumb.
  13. I just ran into a truck like "truck 1", 2000 7.3 no wait to start light/no start. Pulled the filter housing and sure enough the heater was junk. Got the new one in (which was updated) and away she went. I know it's an old post, but no point in making a new one. This is the post that helped me figure out my truck, not alot of experience on 7.3's yet, so I keep coming back here for info. Thanks again guys, Brandon
  14. Yea, check out the picture of that Oshkosh, wait till you whack your thinker on THAT grill!
  15. 6.0 comes in on the hook today (there's always a light at the end of the tunnel, with our job it's just another roll back). Service manager calls me in, says truck is in from another shop (non dealer) for warranty work. Horray! Apparently the truck was in for either shutting off, or a no start. I go out to the truck, notice the air box, turbo, and other misc items in crates in the truck. Hmmm, sparks my interest. Pop the hood, sure as shit, they got the whole way down to the HPOP, busted STC fitting. First time I've seen the rear engine cover busted from this, I've seen the impact marks before, but never a busted cover. No big deal really, just brought up some questions in my mind. First, what the hell else is wrong with this truck, put a new STC fitting and a rear engine cover on this thing, that doesnt mean its gonna start. Second, the shop knew this truck was still under warranty, but didnt say anything to the customer until the shit hit the fan, seems that they werent worried about the customer while there was money to be made. Also, they only have to now pull the transmission to replace the rear cover, did they get scared or what? I've only had one rear engine cover off and didnt run into any problems with the bed pan gaskets, going to take the same approach this time and see what happens. Another thing, hopefully I'll be able to beat the piss out of warranty time, they dont know its already apart and diagnosed :-)
  16. We had a young tech checking out a used 08 Milan, found an oil leak, determined to be coming from the rear head gasket. They gave the job to me because we were short on diesel work. Being the first time I like to go through the book, and holy balls this thing was a pain in the but. Thinking maybe next time I'll drop the sub frame and do the head gasket "my" way. Ugh, what a bitch, just needed to vent
  17. No signs of combustion through bubble test, cust wanted all injectors replaced, I pulled out the left bank and there was no signs of combustion coming past where it should be. Copper rings okay and the same with the injector O rings.
  18. With the flow tester on it, opened up it was hanging around 50 psi
  19. Hey guys, got an 04 in the other day, late build. Cust was complaining of lack of power. Checked it out, dead #1 Cyl. Noticed off road fuel in truck, customer admitted to running off road fuel. Replaced #1, re checked power balance, #2 was just dropping a little bit. Told the customer that more injectors are probably going to follow. Sure enough today the truck got towed in. Had a P0284 in it, and #8 was dead on power balance. Warm the truck up a bit and #2 drops off as well. I was out checking FICM voltages (LPWR 14, MPWR 48.5, VPWR 14) and the truck went to shit. I went back into power balance, now 2,4,6,8 were dead. What have you guys ran into with off road fuel in these trucks? This is the first time I have ran into it, and I'm figuring it has something to do with the injector failures. Thanks again for all of the help guys, Brandon
  20. Thanks Keith, just something stupid I was missing, but it was enough to hold me up. Thanks for the info, Brandon
  21. Hey guys, Working on an 02 7.3, replacing turbo. Went by the book taking it off being my first one, no issues coming off, but now I cant get the up pipes to mate back up to the turbo. I just took the marmon clamp off of the up pipes @ the turbo like the book said. Any tips or tricks you guys have come across? Thanks in advance, Brandon
  22. I was kind of leaning towards this just being sh!tty luck, I just couldn't see all the work that had went into this thing before, not being careful and letting something like that loose. Either way, she'll be back on the road Monday. Thanks again guys, Brandon
  23. Found it, after looking at the history on this truck, it had a mile long list of previous repairs. After digging and digging I finally found it. Follow me here guys, I'm not to good at describing......At the top of the vertical EGR cooler there is a hose that runs into a tube that runs into a 90* aluminum fitting that goes into the front cover. The damned bolt that holds that fitting in was backed the whole way out and the fitting backed out past the o-ring. Not sure if it was due to the previous repairs or just sh!t luck. Thanks for all of the tips guys, Brandon
  24. I had already read through that one, and checked out the hoses, they all checked out good.
