6.0L FEAD Belt Tensioner Tool
batmantech replied to Keith Browning's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
I agree with Mike ...Just pull on the belt and flip up the tensioner tab.... -
Can't seem to find the dry fill capacity of the 6.0. Anyone know what it is or where its found? I looked in spec and it just list the 15 quart oil change amount. (I am trying to settle a dispute with warranty dept. I dont think people understand the amount of oil held inside the system during an oil change.)

Another Rocker Arm Failure
batmantech replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
You have better luck than me. I replaced the rocker assy and pushrod and it made 80 miles before the same rocker broke. The vale moved freely but I suspect it had a guide issue? Lucky for me the lease company towed it away...Dont you love this stuff -

So Keith What is the complete fix? What did you all replace and how many miles are on it after the repair? -
I guess I have been lucky with the air hammer approach....So far

Another Rocker Arm Failure
batmantech replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Let us know how that one works out. I had the same thing and that truck put on 80 miles before coming back. I could move the valves the rocker and ball were intact the rocker was cracked in half -
No other damage seen on the housing
-
Brad, Thanks for posting the picture. It is an aftermarket "Power core" is stamped on the side another sticker has P60 3577 nov 04c I think it came from NAPA
-
This is the first filter I have seen that was coming apart from the housing. The inside of the intake tube covered in dust. I hope it did'nt cause to much damage. (I posted the photo but can't seem to get it to display here)

"It never hurts to bounce ideas off others no matter what their level of knowledge is. You never know when they might just get you out of a jam." Brad,That statement is so true. How many times have you figured out the problem by simply telling someone else. Its wierd how the mind works. I'm glad to hear that I am not along.

6.4 push rod /rocker ?
batmantech replied to batmantech's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
update--This truck is under a fleet waranty. We told them the head needs to come off. They wanted to "try" just rocker arm and push rods first....The thing made it 80 miles before throwing a pushrod. The fleet company then decided not to fix the truck, they towed it away. I thought you guys might find that interesting. -
One thing that is confusing to me is that they list caster then camber then toe on the display screen. After 20 years of alinging and seeing camber first it was difficult to look at the screen that way. I agree the white indicator and the color green or red dont always look correct. You have to go by the numbers

we have a john bean pro 32 visuliner Will you check out if your shows camber caster splits in pos or neg. Ours does not and they keep saying that they will be changing that soon. We have found many illistrations of adjustments to be wrong or inacurate but if you have some experience it wont be a problem.Let me know if you find other interesting differences. Our old unit was a hunter h1111 which was a great unit untill hunter would not support it any longer

Have 08 124,000 miles 6.4 miss, #1 rocker arms not moving push rod out of position. I read past posts on this people had valve stuck in head so I will be looking at that next. My question for those of you who have experience on the 6.4 is this. Power balance showed only #1 -60 all others ok, relative comp was different, #1 21% #2 12% and #5 7%. Is this somthing I should be concerened about. Is it just an issue with one head or do they generaly both have the problem, Is it the old as long as it is apart go after both heads? Any feedback would be appreciated as I have little experience on the 6.4

here is the past on ficm these were l,v,m pwr concerns Hotline response: The E-Series FICM L & V power supplies are set up differently than an F-Series. These power supplies are shared with multiple components and can result in low initial FICM L/V/M power readings. As long as the FICM powers return to their normal range, no concern is present

EGR marbles and egr gummy difference ?
batmantech replied to batmantech's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I agree on the baffle kit,you have to fix the core problem which is almost always the egr cooler/oil cooler. Getting back to the truck I refered to, I was miss lead with the coolant usage. Turns out this truck has multiple drivers and not all tell the maintence people what they are doing. They were adding coolant, vac on the cooling system hot leaked, when I pulled the egr cooler it had coolant at the back. My fault for believing the what I was told I should have just went on with diag. -
Three Stooges and The Little Rascals are great. But I have to say Bugs bunny, road runner are my top pick. All cartoons went down hill after the advertising laws changed(except simpsons and family guy)......bbaaaddeeep.....bbbaadddeeep.......thats all folks!

has anyone ever know or heard of anyone being fined??
-
Ok So I understand and have seen the EGR marbles. I have a 05 (65000 miles)with p0404, p1335 egr valve has the gummy, soft, stuff on the top half of the egr vale. The marbles are connected to coolant usage--this truck has no coolant usage the bottle is full. So what causes the gummy stuff? Is this coking build up and a faulty vale? Does 8-26-12 then apply?

batmantech replied to batmantech's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Finally got to duplicate concern. Made recording, mutiple things look strange but the CKP goes 0 to 19 rpm. Checking out the ckp sensor Sensor sleeve broke off in block looks like the housing was cracked almost all the way around at outer end. Small amount of rust on block. Getting a new sensor will verify then. -

These power supplies are shared with multiple components and can result in low initial FICM L/V/M power readings. As long as the FICM powers return to their normal range, no concern is present. Well aparently those voltages are of no concern. Guess I will just have to keep trying to duplicate it. -
Got o5 E-450 bus that will very randomly not start. Was towed here, went out to lot verifed no start normal crank, pushed in shop. After doing koeo went to datlogger hit key started right up. Only thing I can see is ficm power concerns L,v will drop to 5-6v m 29v but it will start. new ficm same thing. Load tested ficm c powers and grounds all ok. Do you think this is an indicator of the problem? or am I just chasing my tail until I can duplicate this again? I don't see many E series so any input would be great. [update: Just found out that when the bus does no start the bus company has been spraying it with ether, then it starts and continues to run fine. Happens with engine warm or cold.]

I to am all for customer satisfaction and service but... Why is it that we as technicians are responsible for what the parts dept stocks?(I know the answer, I'm just saying) Have you ever had a parts person diag. a concern for you? Or give you training info on a new engine? I just felt like saying this out loud to people that understand. Or am I crazy? Wait dont answer that.
