Have a 2005 F250, 222111kms with an intermittent tick at idle and when under load truck stumbles, misses, makes a horrific mechanical knocking/clacking noise and smokes a rainbow of colours (black, white and blue). Truck performs well at normal operating conditions, has to be placed under high load demand for concern to happen (passing a vehicle, hill climb with trailer). No codes, relative compression at 0% across all cylinders and power balance shows no issues. Fuel pressure is in spec, have not checked base oil pressure. Other tech replaced EGR valve due to it's range failing on test. Truck had HPOP replaced 13k ago. Truck came in at 219k with a hole punched through IPR valve and no start. After replacing valve customer complained of the start of the tick. Tick at idle, very intermittent, has been isolated to RH bank. Have removed valve cover and oil rail, all components are intact and no components feel loose. Not overly familiar with lifter diagnosis/failing lifter symptoms. Have seen two engines fail do to the lifter failing but have never diagnosed a lifter on it's way out. Truck also has an AMSOIL filter bypass kit installed where by the oil feed leaves through the filter cap then proceeds to two filters mounted on the RH frame rail and then back into the oil fill spout on the RH valve cover (similar to this http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/bf.aspx ). The oil change intervals on this truck are extended by at least double now since this kit has been installed. Was wondering if perhaps it isn't as great as what the owner thinks and has possibly starved a component of base oil? Any thoughts, tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated..this is a new tree im barking up...

Had a customer add green coolant to his resevoir because "Check Coolant" light came on the dash. He filled it right to the cap and was complaining because coolant was over everywhere once it heated up...

Dusted down turbo on '02 7.3 that grinds/howls. Doesn't want to pay $1800 for a new one sooo, he's having me pull the turbo off his 7.3 Excursion and swap turbos.

The last pcm flash recall....
deezul replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I've had complaints as well about the lack of "Regen" since the flash. I have no idea why people are complaining about that... -
We had a car delivery truck driver die on us two years ago. He arrived at four and when we headed out at six he still hadn't unloaded a unit but he was under his truck. We hollered at him and no movement, the parts manager pulled him out from under the truck...

Yikes! Safety glasses aren't worn nearly enough. I see guys at work using their air hammers without glasses or the bench grinder without glasses. I don't wear mine all the time but I sure do put them on whenever using air tools and/or what not.

The other morning I made myself a bacon and peanut butter sandwich. Six slices of butcher shop bacon (not that thin crummy bacon that you buy at the grocery store) and gobs of kraft crunchy. Never made it before in my life, don't even know why I did make it, all I know is that the saltiness was intense...I could feel chest pains the entire time I ate them ( I made two). At least I got my fill of protein that day.

What pressures should I be seeing (what numbers are you guys seeing?) with my gauge in the HPOP resevoir port? at hot idle I'm seeing 22-25psi (wsm states 10 psi at curb idle), on the highway at wot,it's around 40 psi (wsm states 40-70psi)..

I've got a cancel box rigged up now, we will see how it goes this afternoon. Still scratchin' my head on this one. Will also check oil pressure at hpop during concern.

oil leak at orange turbo drain tube

For people who don't know, who is this man on your avatar Alex? -
Any chance you could post some information or pictures of said cancel box? I really have no idea what it would or does look like, I just know when I ask, nobody knows where it could or would be or even if we have one.

A couple years back when I was doing basic electrical a handful of guys failed the written test...yikes!

Unfortunately I have no injector kill box, we don't have much left for tools in the seven three department. This truck at hot idle has a MFDES of .10 - .11gr. This truck doesnt run a chip and has no starting issues either. When the issue starts occuring just a shut off/restart (even going down the highway) and the truck is back up to full power/no "limp mode/lack of power" issue. I am going to recheck tank restriction but other than injectors, I'm somewhat stumped. When the issue is occuring I can also retrieve a code for injector #8 contribution/balance. This unit has 182,000kms on it. I was thinking the issue might be related to cold vs hot but on my last road test it acted up on my way to (from a cold start) but no concerns on my back. Re-verified tank restriction - 1" on key on, 0" while running and under load.

I have a 2002 F350 that has an intermittent P1211 code, CEL, lack of power and smokes. When unit is shut off and restarted CEL is cleared and issue no longer exists. Checked fuel pressure at pump and both heads (under load), verified any form of restriction in tank (none present), monitored ICP and IPR correlation as well as oil aeration test, verified level in resevoir as well as level in pan. Do not have tools to block off heads to check pump pressures/leaks but ICP side of system appears to be operating properly. Max duty cycle on IPR reads 36% under WOT. My IPR sometimes reads less than 8% at idle but rarely and only a reading of 7.9% (nothing terribly drastic). Oil aeration test shows ICP never exceeding 1470PSI at 3400RPM for 3-5mins. Only issues found were ICP sensor leaking internally forcing oil out of connector and up pig tail (components replaced). Replaced IPR with spare known good regulator. Replaced RH check valve as fuel pressure on RH head was extremely low under load. When condition occurs unit acts as if it is starving for fuel and boost (yet, it smokes), develops a severe lack of power and a miss at idle. As mentioned, with a restart the issue seems to be resolved, sometimes for ten minutes, sometimes for 10 seconds. When performing an injector contribution test with CEL on, code P0284 is present. Could it possibly be an injector sticking momentarily? Hard to remove valve covers and duplicate concern to see if spill port on injectors are leaking(issue can only be duplicated on road test). Have read other posts but still cannot find too much information relating to my issue. Have read the "Technician's High Pressure Pump guide for the 7.3" and still haven't found any relating information. Not overly familiar with 7.3's and I don't like throwing parts at anything (unless they are my "tester" parts) or I can prove the part/system was faulty. Thanks for your help in advance!

Here's just what we need...
deezul replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Never was able to see the video either but, you can pull any engine/vehicle apart. Nothing is perfect and the 6.7L is a lot nicer than the last couple of deisels. Even the "workhorse" 5.9(6.7) Cummins has its fair share of issues. I sure did love the quote of "It's hard to fly like an eagle when you are talking like turkeys" had a good chuckle over that because clearly, from what I've read, that guy was an idiot who shot the video. -
Around here we offer the service advisor job to pretty much anyone within the company who will take it(the SA position has been a revolving door for the last three years). Car experience? None? Congrats, you've got the job. Most of the SA's are high schoolers that applied for positions in the call center and some how made it upfront. I can tell why our work load has been on a steady decline as it seems like no one can explain what a part does or how the system(s) works. To a customer who just spent anywhere from $100 and up and not being able to receive a proper explanation, well I can see why so many of them are pissed off. The SA's also receive a bonus on upsells, so even if the tech does not recommend the service, the advisors do and usually based on a bullshit service schedule...I can tell customers are pissed off when every time they come in someone is trying to ram more pricey maintenance items down their throat.. And don't get me started on the work orders...

Flat rate reading got me as well, good job im an idiot.

My parents always wanted me to go to university but I had a hard time finding anything that I was overly interested in, all I knew is I wanted to do something with my hands, no desk job for me. I was always interested in cooking and wanted to be a chef, performed a co-op position with my high school and quickly learned that cooking is fun but, not as a career. My next venture was tool and die maker, I loved machine shop and was fairly decent at it. Attended college for the first semester, on day one the instructor told us that "We better love living in Mexico and China because jobs rarely exist in Canada for us". The program was terrible and I had developed sinus issues after long exposure to cutting fluid smoke. So..after one semester of that program I decided I would resort to my past time hobby and attempt to make it a career. Four years later and a licence and so far so good. This isn't a career that will last my life time but on days it can be satisfying, my dealership treats me well and the pay isn't terrible.

Is there any scrap value to the old oil coolers? -
6.0L EGR Coolers Now Have a $75 Core Charge (4/29)
deezul replied to Keith Browning's topic in Parts
I was wrong, the screens under the cooler aren't coming in the EGR kits, the new EGR kit has really nothing new in it, turbo gasket kit and the usual egr gaskets. The screen for the oil cooler is coming in the oil cooler kit.... -
Holy plow! Glad you're doing well as well as your family Jim, this is a very, very scary situation which seems to hit harder when you know the people involved...
