Oil cooler/IPR replacement no start.
deezul replied to deezul's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Well, HPOP it is! Have never used this test before, I've only done three pumps in my couple of years and those were due to catastrophic failures. I really appreciate the information! I was pretty sure that if gurgling is heard under the filter than air SHOULD NOT be bypassing the pump... -
6.0L EGR Coolers Now Have a $75 Core Charge (4/29)
deezul replied to Keith Browning's topic in Parts
Physically the egr cooler is the same, I don't ever remember receiving the screen (3c3z-6c683-ab) for under the oil cooler in my egr kits before but these two kits had it in there, they also had the green o-ring(w302725) for the PCV pipe to valve cover and some miscellaneous turbo gaskets. -
6.0L EGR Coolers Now Have a $75 Core Charge (4/29)
deezul replied to Keith Browning's topic in Parts
I just installed two egr coolers this week and the foreman has installed one. All had the new #'s 4c3z9p456ah and parts mentioned nothing about returning for core. I even questioned them and they replied "nope, no core charge". I wont complain, to the scrap guy they go for some desperately needed fuel money. -
Oil cooler/IPR replacement no start.

Same here. I have never used this test before. All HPOP's that i have replaced have also been complete failures. @Mike: What post was this discussion in about the hpop? -

I removed the oil filter Jim and pressurized the system. You can hear bubbling and gurggling coming from under the oil filter housing. The sand isn't casting sand, it seemed like the valley wasn't cleaned as thoroughly as it could have been... I'm not sure what the gurggling from under the housing indicates? Pushing the check valve down doesn't change the sound. -
Thanks Keith! It's a slow boat to China when you have socialized health care and when it's not an easy fix. I have been suffering with an ever growing list of symptoms for the last two-three years and have finally received a "half-ass" diagnosis of "Celiacs disease". It's going to be an interesting future...It's good to be back!

Hey guys. I haven't been on here lately (or at all for the last couple of months). My health has not been great at all and hopefully we have found the issue. Just wanted to say hello again to you guys and thank you in advance for the help you have given me and continue to do so. Looks like I have missed a lot of posts, have some good reading to catch up on!

I have been away sick from work for a while, when I returned I had a few dead heads here. Shop foreman replaced egr cooler and oil cooler on '05 f350. It started, ran fine then stalled. IPR valve full of sand when I removed it. Replaced valve, flushed system and truck would start (a little hard), truck ran fine, performed fine (IPR and ICP were slightlty elevated @ 750-800RPM 30%, 800ICP). Once the unit is shut off, it will not restart. Unplug the ICP and crank for 10-15 seconds and it will eventually catch and start. Runs ok. When cranking ICP pressure fluctuates from 200-500. Performed audible air test to check for HPO leaks but can't really hear anything (other than the usual slight "hissing" of air coming from HPOP seal). Is there something that the foreman has missed when re-assembling the oil cooler? He informed that yesterday when he ramped the IPR to 85% and then back down to 15% it started with no issues. He has replaced two IPR's and I replaced the original. I monitored base pump flow by removing the filter and holding the check valve down, housing filled in 4-5seconds. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am very, very backed up...

Thumbs up to Corner Gas. Oscar is pretty much the best character on it. My favorite episode is the Summit Series re-enacted using table top hockey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brent_Leroy#Main_cast

Have myself an oil leak at the back of the right hand valve cover, has anyone had the joy of replacing the valve cover/intake gasket yet? I am not looking forward to it...

Could it possibly be an issue with turbocharger gasket (under the turbo) allowing oil and coolant to mix?

06 F250 Erratic Fuel Pressure

Agreed. Everytime it sucked air cylinder #1 would drop off on power balance. -
06 F250 Erratic Fuel Pressure
deezul replied to PowerSToKed's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
How much fuel is in the tank when the concern occurs?? I had an issue similar to this, this past summer where it was the pickup tube in the tank. I never had fluctuating pressure until 1/4 tank and less. The truck would perform excellent until 1/4 tank reached, after that fuel pressure would be extremely erratic as well as driveability concerns. The pickup in the tank had a crack in it allowing it to suck air from time to time. -
Re-verified fuel pressure. It hangs around 40 psi at wot(simulation) using flow tester. Once again the injectors lower copper o-ring has been blown off as well as the lower fuel o-ring has been burnt. Cleaned the injector cup and inspected for wear, none seen but it will get replaced. Injector hold down was correct, checked torque on the other injector hold downs and all are torqued properly. This is the first time I have had repeat failure due to this reason...

I have an 06 Econline that had previously had all four injectors replaced on the right head (1,3,5 and #7 which was stuck open allowing compression gasses into fuel system). Discovered that injector #7 had been improperly torqued from the factory (FQR) as when I removed it to replace it (the first time) the copper washer had been burnt off the injector as well as the lower o-ring. I cleaned the injector cup and inspected it with a borescope but could not find any issues with it. I then replaced the hold down clamp and fuel feed banjo bolt and finished the job. Truck has ran fine for the customer for the last couple of weeks. This afternoon the truck came back to me with the same issues. When I went to start it, hydrolocked. Scanned for codes, cylinder contribution codes 1,2,3,4,6,7 were all present. Removed glow plugs and cranked. Cylinder #7 was completely full of fuel. I'm going to tear into it tomorrow but do you think that the cup has failed? What are the chances of repeat injector failure(on the same cylinder as before)?. (Fuel pressure isn't an issue 45 PSI at Upper Fuel Bowl)

I never really found the S6210 to be that great either. I used it once or twice but after the tech left our shop never found the need to buy one.

Great idea, I'm doing it.

Agreed!

^ Awesome tips and diagnostics Bruce! This is going in the memory bank! -
But I was interested in buying that truck! Oh wait, no I wasn't. Done. (From the shop, I'll flag it again at home and at my gf's house)

I too have an hour drive each way to work. I subscribe to Sirius and find it much better than NPR but they do tend to have alot of repeats on certain stations (usually the music stations, not so much the chat stations). Lately I have it turned off though, currently listening to "Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy". Pretty great audio book to listen to.

Another one today! This guy is from Montreal. The belt wrapped around the p/s pump and tore the front shaft seal out of it also.
