  1. better to have and not need than to need and not have I work in the sticks for one, so i do have a gun around me at all times. Not to mention i'm obviously an avid sportsman
  2. if you set the stepped dowels in the head first will they go in far enough to still allow the gasket to lay flat? if so then i see nothing wrong with that. I would put them on the head first, then set the head on the block just to make sure the dowel step isn't pushing on the gasket anywhere
  3. here is the original flyer on it showing it's supposed application http://image.snapon.com/international/pdf/s6210_npa.pdf it definitely does not do that, maybe if the e-doc was a little smaller it would work
  4. I have the OTC kit for myself(the shops is missing). Like you said, the hex would not allow the fitting to be screwed in all the way on the makeshift fuel pressure gauge setup I was using. I really didn't want to grind down my newly purchased ICP tool No worries though, I discovered the actual 08 special tool soon after and it resides close to me at all times
  5. wow Keith great idea! I knew I was saving those plugs for something. they'd work for the test port at the secondary housing too if someone wanted to make a FP gauge adapter. The threads are the same M12x1.5
  6. It was an 06 I believe. When did they start putting different tensioners in them? I have replaced tensioners for the seals being blown out but I never attributed it to a low oil pressure condition(The last one I did a set on didn't have low oil pressure) It was there for vct DTCs and i just happened to find them not to mention some broken chain guides Thanks for all the input. This one likely won't be back but i'm glad I atleast have a direction to go in next time
  7. it's not like those wires never get cut by themselves. isn't there a tsb on it?
  8. No diesel job for me........... and I almost got fired today for opening my big fucking mouth I guess the boss found out I was on the hunt and I received a phone call this afternoon(we're not in the same store and I see him at most twice a year). Basically what I got from this conversation is "you're not getting anymore money and if you want to leave then I need to put an ad in the paper"
  9. It had a motorcraft filter on it, that was the first thing I looked at. I have seen debri in the solenoids before that ruined the screen
  10. Had a 133k mark LT yesterday with a upper valvetrain noise at idle, very pronounced at startup. I could have easily called phasers, solenoids, tensioners etc but from what I've been reading on fmc I'm bound to get burned. So I checked the IMRC and all the spark plugs for being loose. No exhaust leaks this thing is definitely making valvetrain noise. Reminds me of a 4.0 SOHC with tensioners/cassettes on their way out. Base oil pressure was 21psi with EOT at 190°F, far enough under spec to make me wonder, what are you guys finding with low oil pressure 5.4 three valves? I did change the oil (which was 11k overdue) and it made no difference. I'm suspecting a lack of maintenance issue, maybe crank endplay? I didn't get any further with the truck, we basically told the guy change his oil more often and drive it until it quit I was watching the VCT pids but nothing looked out of the ordinary, certainly no difference side to side even though one bank was making noise
  11. The truck I mentioned in my first post hasn't returned yet.
  12. any EGR doc on these engines? it's been so long since i was in 6.7 class I can't remember
  13. I knew I read about this trick somewhere on here. Finally got around to making one. Took a 1/4 FIP steel fitting and welded it 45° to an STC. The air chuck can be serviced seperately
  14. today i put a pumpshaft and convertor in a taurus ax4n. started this morning, done around 3:30 yesterday i put a cac in a 6.4. loaded up with water. diesel work has been slim again recently. I've got one foot out the door, waiting for a call.
  15. i read that the fuel pressure gauge is coming out very shortly, possibly this month beginning of next month. you'll need the expandable pyrometer for it to work with the CTS/CS
  16. yeah I always let mine idle for about a minute after coming to a stop, running it hard I'll let go a little longer. A pyro would be nice so you know you're not wasting fuel letting it cool down. I read that 400° or a little less is what most guys want for shutdown. I would love to see a fuel pressure sensor compatible with the edge.
  17. Keith do you recall how many miles were on these trucks?
  18. I've got one coming back on monday 2011 F-250 6.2L. Supposedly shakes out of control when you hit a bump at highway speeds. could not verify but I'm going to have to this time or it's not getting pulled in. A couple weeks ago I put in a RF tierod end and a track bar balljoint because each had some play. Tire pressure and alignment were okay on this truck. Did not remove the steering damper at the time so I'll be looking at it I know one thing, the gear box in my truck is about as loose as any I've ever driven and it doesn't do any of this crap on the highway
  19. we had a rash of tuneups come through last year, now this year i can't remember the last one I did. I'm on my third lisle kit. after a while the grabbing screw will dull out.
  20. I've been looking into edge monitors lately too. The two I'm looking at are the Insight CS or CTS. The primary difference between the 2 is the screen size and cost. CTS has a touch screen and can add a back up camera like you said. http://www.xtremediesel.com/edgeproductInsightCSCTS.aspx From what i've been reading on other message boards each unit(with the lastest software installed) can read valuable pids like ficm voltages and ICP. They're supposedly expanding their pid list frequently. another future possibility is a stand alone fuel pressure sending unit which i'd be very interested in I'll probably go with the CS and a pyrometer
  21. yes definitely, major domino effect. this is why i'm so concerned with how many leaking rads leave our shop untouched. my service manager plain doesn't understand the repercussions
  22. Oh yeah and I'm putting a used engine in that explorer, it's been outside for a week now with a big empty space in the engine bay I still want out and today I remembered another reason why. 08 escape cd4e with a 2-3 flare. Still under warranty obviously, it'll be back for further diag monday right about the time I get started on that engine
  23. my 01 grand prix and my 06 250. the grand prix is my toy but it's currently for sale big cam, valvesprings, double roller chain, supercharged 10psi, high compression short block, headers, 3" exhaust, more shit than i can remember. runs surprisingly well for a v6. eats mustangs for lunch. never ran it at the track because i drove it every day for 6 years. it's had the cam in it for 3 years, you've never heard a v6 sound like this
  24. lets play "what's in my garage at home?" correct answer? my truck backed in half way ass first with the RR brakes off because the caliper decided to freeze up on the way home. now my whole house smells like burnt brakes luckily i found an old pair of oven mitts to use during disassembly
  25. my job app is in at a bigger shop, they don't have a service director right now so no one to foward the info to at this time. they'll call me when things get straightened out they have a ton of trucks/buses outside. that's what I like to see, the other place i interviewed didn't have one truck outside
