No communication on chipped trucks
Matt Saunoras replied to Fordracer's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have seen one do that. Pulled it in for a 14E03 recall, wouldn't recognize the PCM so I stuck it back outside. The guy who owned it didn't know anything about it but at the same time declined the free reflash. Didn't want it effecting whatver fuel mileage he was already getting -
Just heard this on the radio, thought I was hearing things.

My guess is most people in the market for a Nissan truck would be leary of the diesel option -
I did an IPR in a 6.0 ambulance today. Loved the fact it set a P2623 and they didnt clear the codes.

I blew it on this years first test with a 50%. I need to pay a little more attention

Here is why you should reconsider using an aftermarket air filter for your 6.7. I can't tell you how many times I've seen this

Today I fucked around with 2 newish F-150s with sync issues. One is a gen 3 system our tech who just quit put a FDIM in. Sometimes the display won't power down at key off and the APIM gets smoking hot. Hardware test won't let me put one in it though. In my one bay is a F-550 getting rear pads and rotors, a RF speed sensor and some wiring for the body lights. In my other bay is a 15 F-550 dump that needs an upper oil pan reseal. Outside is a newer v10 E-450 bus with tranny issues. Also the 6.0 with a cracked Y-pipe? The guy wants me to weld a new flex joint on it. I think it's doable, I'll post pics if it works, for now it's pushed to the back of the line.

Whoops wrong thread

What year? I believe the 15 and up will only erase the code on its own and it takes extensive driving to do so

Here's a failed vacuum pump from a 14 F-250. The complaint was no brake assist. It got a booster too due to some extra oil ingestion.

6.0L turbo differences
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
That is an 03 turbo, it's the one that whistles real loud. You cannot swap the turbine housing with any other model years that have the vertical rear mounting bolt. The turbine, vanes and housing are all unique to that year. The best thing to do would be to get an 03 pedestal from ford. If you absolutely must install the turbo as is it will kind of set in the pedestal and mate up to the pipes just fine. You could just use the front 2 bolts and forget about the rear one. Honestly it should not damage the pedestal and many guys do this when installing an 03 -
VGT Diagnosis & Inspection
Matt Saunoras replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
In that last pic take your magnet tool and pull the piston in and out to feel for binding. That will run the cam, unison ring and vanes in their full direction of travel. 6.0s are the same way, I don't believe it's possible to remove the piston completely or jump teeth because the unison ring will only allow so much cam travel -

Beta testing Ford's new message board

I registered, waiting for authorization. -
The sad part is this is not a high mileage unit. It hasn't even cracked 70k and this is the second time the cab has been off. I have no idea why it was off the first time but it has all the telltale signs and what's weird is no warranty history. I did run relative with IDS and it flagged #8 down 1% which is not a good sign but far from unusual.

I think every 6.4 high pressure turbo I've ever seen leak at the drain tube wound up needing a turbo anyways. This one's no exception, if you look at the green oring it's cooked and hard as a rock. I bet the rotating assembly is dragging from coked up bearings and getting super hot. It is leaking oil out of the turbine seal too confirming it needs replaced. This one is getting replaced with a reman turbo from a core complete that's been in the back of the shop for months. The HP turbo from that engine is only got maybe 30k on it.

Got a 6.4 getting the cab pulled for broken exhaust manifold bolts and a leaking turbo drain tube. Also got a 6.0 here that has a cracked y-pipe and needs some injectors. A 6.7 pickup that has no brake assist AND our tranny guy walked out today.

I did a leaking STC today in an 07 F-350. Haven't actually done one that wasn't preventative for a long time. Anymore it seems like all the easy hot no starts are fixed

My 6.0 nightmare story
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I see 6.0s and 6.4s with exhaust manifold gaskets that squeal when the bolts in the head loosen up -
I still have that 6.4 shortblock I'm here working on today. Had Monday and Tuesday blanked out on the schedule to finish it and we had a guy call off both days. I haven't touched it all week Outside on hold is a 6.0 no start hot that I had to put an alternator on before I could even verify, a 6.4 with turbo or up-pipe issues. In my other bay is a 07 F-250 plow truck getting brakes, rotors, e brake levers and napa rear backing plates.

Oil Pan Replacement
Matt Saunoras replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have that same set and I love it! Consider establishing good relations with your snap on guy. I frequently get those same sockets warrantied out when they don't bite anymore -
The other guy on my side has a rotary 12k with three stage arms. It is perfect for lifting cabs, regular cabs are a breeze.

Yes I also noticed the NOX pids will drop after a while of driving. Very hard to know for sure what they should be reading though.
