The ones I have done I heated the bolt heads with torch till they glow.Take air hammer with chisel end knock heads off.Hit them with penetrating oil and let them cool a while and they spin out easily with a reverse drill bit.

97 7.3l runs then slowly shuts down
sixturbosix replied to sixturbosix's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Thanks guys I will get back on this truck today and see what I can find. -
I have a 97 7.3l i have been fighting for a couple days and i am looking for some input. Has 55psi fuel pressure. It is hard start as in it has to crank over 8-10 seconds before it starts. It will then run good when under light throttle but if you keep raising throttle or rev engine 3 or 4 times it starts cutting up and losing cylinders till it dies.It is then hard to start and will repeat same scenerio. It acts like it is getting combustion in the fuel rail but I have not been able to confirm that.It has no DTC's and fuel pressure stays constant 50-55psi during these episodes. It does tend to smoke somewhat when this occurs.

Has anyone seen a HPFP explode. It blew one of the heads off sheared the bolts and sent it through the cover. It then blew a hole in the rear.Warranty was denied by Ford. They have claimed water caused this.No engineer came out or anything. This truck had what looked like clean fuel and good filters.Bummer for the customer.

Tech that works beside me had one with this code today and this is what he found.Cavatation under the thermostat.I had never seen this.

Another Rocker Arm Failure
sixturbosix replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Thanks guys I appreciate all the info.I think i am going to loosen the rocker bridge and put air in the cylinder to see if the valve comes up and seals off. -
Another Rocker Arm Failure

I contacted hotline on this truck so I would have some documentation of what items were recomended to be replaced being this is a customer pay job.Hotline suggested I replace all rocker assy on this one side and inspect push rods.No push rod damage but the cylinder is now low on compression.(200psi).With all valves closed the exhaust side rocker is still tight as if it is under pressure on cylinder #3.What will cause this.Lifter?. -

When replacing all the rockers do you have to remove the fuel rail under the valve cover. If so Does turbo have to come off to replace the fuel line on back of head. -
Okay guys I have searched forum as best I can and found no results.I have a 97 7.3l that has chaffed the fuel line under the turbo.I have always removed the turbo to replace these and it has been a while scince I replaced one but I am interested in knowing if it is possible to do without removing the turbo. If not any tips much appreciated.

Pay Attention To What Your Doing!!
sixturbosix replied to joshbuys's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
My answer to "How Long" is "well if everything goes right it will be done between now and 5:00". -
We have a new tech in our shop that just moved here to N.C.from New Hampshire this summer. He says most suspension and brake work takes twice as long to repair where he came from.He can't believe the difference in the amount of rust between there and here.He has an F150 and he had to break the rotors in half just to get them off his truck when he put new pads on it.Before he was done a brake line ruptured due to rust.It was they worst mess I had ever seen.I couldn't imagine going through that on a daily basis.

It has been several weeks since I put all 8 injectors in the truck.I got an update from the customer today and was told all is well. The engine has not shown any signs of oil use since the injector replacement.
-
Got the new injectors today.Lets put them in and see what happens.Hope it fixes this thing or customer just threw away some big bucks. It was his decision.

By the way I checked fuel in filter housing and it was clean fuel only.Turbo is slightly dusted but not bad.Tips are not rounded just shinny and a slight bit worn.We have the crankcase pressure tools but I figured if it had alot of blow by I would see signs of it where the crankcase vents into the air intake tube.It was missing the oil fill spout on the bottom that seals against the valve cover and no signs of oil vapor escaping there either.

Thanks guys. The customer just bought the truck in Oklahoma and drove it back to here in N.C. and said it used almost 12 gallons of oil on the trip here. This is a very nice crew cab with 190,000miles with a flatbed. No scratches and nice interior.Looks like whoever owned it didnt use the flatbed very often.Customer nabbed it for $4,000.From the amount of parts that have been thrown at it,the previously owner must have known it had a problem and spent alot of money and never got it fixed. It is blowing my because someone must have previously cleaned the cac hoses because there is not a spec of oil in them.I pulled back the down pipe from turbo and it doesnt have hardly any soot in it.Tailpipe has soot but no signs of wetness.Customer called this morning and said he wanted all 8 injectors replaced regardless if it fixed it or not.I will get some pics and post results after injectors replaced.Thanks.

All injectors have been tested with OTC 310-141/1.Sorry I did not list that I had done this test but I tested each one after I pulled all of them.I have also done a compression test which all cyl. passed no problem.

I got a 99 f550 7.3l in our shop yesterday.Customer just bought truck and drove truck 1100 miles and it has used 11-12 gallons of oil.It only has a small oil leak at one of the high pressure fittings but it it is very small. No signs of a large leak when looking under the truck either. The truck runs great and not smoking from exhaust. My first thought was injector o rings because I have seen these engines use alot of oil past an o ring and not show signs of smoke.Turbo looks good as far as bearings no oil visible.I have pulled all 8 injectors and it has new o rings already.Holes look good.It also has 3 new injectors and new uvc harnesses. It looks like someone else has been looking for the same problem previous to me.My question is where else can a 7.3l use this much oil.It obviously is not leaking this much it has to be burning it.

Opinions on 5.4L spark plug removal tools
sixturbosix replied to Mekanik's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
This is the quickest tool for removing 5.4 3v broken plugs I have found and I have tried several.I would recommend it without hesitation.I have only had to remove one head due to this tool not working. This was only because a new tech that had never removed any before didn't get enough bite in the sleeve on several attempts and left nothing to get hold of. -
didnt take long..Gas in a 6.7L
sixturbosix replied to walleyewarrior's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Had a bucket truck hauled in the other day and contractor stated the gas hand was on empty when they put close to 40 gallons in the truck.Charged 2 hours to pump it out and ran the fuel I pulled out in my old toyota.Got me back and forth to work for many weeks with no issues.Other techs in shop said I was crazy for putting it in my own vehicle.About a week later they were asking if they could have some.Betcha know what I told them.F U. -
We have customers coming in wanting to use the money they have built up on their account.Your account will show free oil changes you have earned over time for being a loyal service customer plus cash money you have earned that you can use towards your service bill. There is a website you can go to and check your balances. All these customers balances still show money.Would FMC design a program that could leave a new dealer holding the bag of debt which at our dealer looks to be about $30,000.It is starting to look like our old dealer took the money and run leaving our new owners to foot the bill.I really can't see this program not having some money paid in by FMC.
-
I have a question that I am having trouble finding an answer for.Where does Owner Advantage Money come from.Does the dealer put it in an account or does FMC put it in an account. From my understanding the dealer pays it straight out of pocket. The dealer I work for was pushing employees not to mention people had this money so it would not get used. Then all the sudden the dealer sold out and customers want to know where their money is.Is the new dealer responsible for paying this money or do customers lose it if the dealer goes out of business or sales out.

I took a photo of the underside of a 2011 f250 at my local training facility. It has single stage turbo and no exhaust emissions. For sale in Mexico only.Vin#1FTSW2BT4BEA00003.I hope picture works.

Ford won't generally deny engine related powertrain warranty on 6.0l diesels with programmers unless it is catastrophic damage or head gaskets blown without egr cooler blown. They have always told us to continue with repair under warranty. When I ask why, they said it is to hard and expensive to prove legally(with lawyers and court) due to the amount of problems these engines have seen just from stock settings.
-
I can tell you one product not to put in a 6.0L.At least from my experience it failed both times.I had this wise idea to put SEAFOAM additive in to unstick injectors. The stuff says it is ok for diesel application and it works wonders on hydralic lifters in gas engines.I had to replace IPR in both vehicles I used it in due to a no start shortly after driving them.Looked like a freight train drove through the IPR screen on both of them.
